Default Legumes combined w protein or no?

I know that on SB you need to re program.....

My question is; Since legumes are starchy (vegetable?), must they be eaten w protein?
I notice that peop that eat hummus eat vegies but hummus also contains tahini so fat plus more protein.
If you eat a lentil soup or meat free chili, is that all you need?

As most of you know, Atkins, etc teach to eat protein w carb to slow the rise in BG.
So what's the SB plan say? I have the book but can't seem to get that straight.

There is not a 'must' saying that legumes have to be eaten with protein. Not that I know of anyway.
If and when I do eat a lentil soup, its not only the soup. I will have a cup of it before I eat my meal which is always a protein and a veggie.

On SB, legumes and beans are not considered a starchy veggie as they are allowed from phase I onwards where starchy veggies are not added until phase II.
Meat free chili? whats your protein? I count beans as part of my veggies. I'm not vegetarian so do eat all kinds of meats. Perhaps a vegetarian would eat a meat free chili?
Our meal plan guide suggests that we include legumes/beans as part of our veggie servings. We're encouraged to have 2 x 1/3-1/2 cup servings per day from phase I.
Portion control is a very big aspect of doing SBD successfully so they are not an unlimited item.

I hope that this answers your question.

Thanks, Judy.
I am not a vegetarian and will not be making meat free chili but I see peop following veg SB, so used it as an example.

I was vegan for many years and ate lots of bean soups made w/o meat.

It is hard to wrap around legumes as a vegetable....
But I made the adjustment from vegan to LC, so anything is possible.

If its hard for you to think about them as a veggie, so what? Why do you need to change the way you thik about them at all? But as I said, they are portion controlled on this plan so not unlimited.
They are considered part of our veggies on SB and we do eat them as part of our meals.

I've gone as far as having a cup of a lentil soup as a snack without anything else.

Yes, I see, starchy vegetable.

Having that example really helps.

Thanks again.
