Hi Bella, welcome!

I pretty much followed Dr Atkins' lists when I was started. 2 cups salad plus 1 cup other vegies, plus ½ avo and olives, etc.

I notice you have only read Atkins for Life as yet. I found that it was mostly geared for maintenance, and so I would recommend you spend the 20 odd bucks on Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution, where he explains in detail exactly what you can and can't eat on Induction.

Until you get it, you can find the info on www.atkins.com

All the best to you, matey.

Rosebud

Thank you for the information - i also got the carb counter book yesterday so perhaps i may have to get the other book as well as i don't have the amounts for the induction period of how much food you can eat. Have started with bacon and eggs and will have salad and chicken for the next two meals - Bella2

Question

I never ate so much salad as when I was on Atkins. That's one for all the 'protein is bad for you' crowd.

Where did you get the carb counter book? Does it have commercial brands or just produce?

Kate

I usually buy vege wise;

broccoli
zucchini
cabbage
red and green peppers
eggplant
turnip
cauliflower
fresh chives, basil and coriander (cause I love them but havent mastered the art of actually growing them yet!)
chilli
mushrooms

salad stuff I get
tomato (obviously)
lettuce
continental or lebanese cucumber

Lots of different cheeses and lots of different meat. and that is about it off the top of my head. oh and cream and strawberries
I also make pots of a bacon & cauliflower soup which is yummy, easy to make and low carb (not much is no carb unfortunately!) I posted the recipie before but if you cant find it I wil repost for you.
Mashed cauli is great instead of potato and you can have oodles of that and broccoli spinach etc.
Its a good way to start. If your library has a book called Protien Power read that too. You can't have enoug information. There is a forum under here for a PP group info. Look see.
Good Luck
