Default My Journey

Back when I was a kid, I used to very rarely eat, and I think it screwed up my metabolism(thyroid).
Here is a list of my symptoms:Acne, Dry Oily Hair & Skin, Light Sensitivity, Cold Feet & hands, poor digestion, Carpel Tunnel like symptoms, no sex drive, memory loss and poor concentration, bloated face, insomnia, fatigue, the list could go on & on.

Anyways, I went to the Dr and she ran a TSH test which came back normal. I told her that the symptoms were there and to refer me to a specialist. She told me that she could only refer dignosed patients to a specialist.. Now I am back to square one..

A main reason I beleive I have some type of thyroid disorder, besides my symptoms ,is awhile back I ordered some Cytomel T3 online.. I was taking it because I wanted it to help lose fat.. It ended up clearing up most of my symptoms but I didnt put 2 and 2 together.. As soon as I ran out of the meds my symtoms came back..

Im kind of stuck because Dr's push me away and dont really listen to what I have to say.. I dont really know what to do at this point besides ordering more meds overseas and treating myself...

Well, first step is to get your actual test results...a hard paper copy. One should always get a copy of test results from your doctor, lots of times they don't tell you things they should or they miss stuff or they just don't understand the significance. Then you can start researching what the difference is between normal and optimal.

But that's the starting point.

There are lots of doctors out there who will go above and beyond "normal" TSH and treat you until you're optimal.

Some of your symptoms do sound like they could be hypothyroid but some also sound like they could be food intolerance symptoms. Are you gluten/dairy free?

If she won't refer you, ask her to run a TSH, free T4 and free T3 all at the same time - it is very possible to have a normal TSH, but your free T4 or free T3 be off....for example, if your free T4 is low and your TSH is low-normal, that may indicate central hypothyroidism that is originating at your pituitary, not your thyroid. Get further tests done if you can!

Dusty,
You can order cytomel online without a dr's prescription? Wow, just double checking. I would like to try some. I am also in the normal range, but taking 100mcg synthroid. Hair loss and memory fog has subsided, yet pounds keep fluctuating and and going up. I am now 196lbs at 5 ft. tall.

What's "the normal range"? I hope people are learning to get a copy of their test results. My doctor would tell me that a TSH of over 5 is normal but I wouldn't accept that. I told him I wanted it closer to 1 than 5 and he's working with me on that. But as long as you accept someone on the phone telling you "normal" you'll never really know whether or not that is optimal.

I had horrible hair loss and other symptoms in "the normal range" but once I got it down towards the lower end of TSH ranges that went away.

Always, always, always get copies of your blood work. If you're like me, you can squirrel them away in a binder for reference later.

Ok went to another Dr... Insisted on FT3, FT4, and antibodies,, they acted like I was crazy, told me to become a vegetarian, tried to refer me to a psyc.. They pretty much wanted to run every test under the sun, so I said I would as long as they ran my tests as well... Got the results today. Apparently they ran a TSH, total T-3, and FT4(not what i asked for), anyways, TSH and total T3 came back normal, but guess what!!?? FT4 was in the low range! They said it wasnt worth treating, but I insisted that I will still have my symptoms until I get treated, so they referred me to an Endo, so maybe I can finally get the right tests ran and get treated...
