Default beggining weights / exercise

hi, guys, i'm into my second week of atkins, and apart from one lapse (bread) once, i have been going well, so far lost 6lbs. My question is about weights and how to use them properly. I have just started exercising i have been riding my bike for 20 mins a day, long time since i really exercised, and now want to do weights to help add muscle and help sculp my body. I'm lucky as i have a hour glass figure (outline at moment )i have excess weight on my stomach thighs and hips.My goal is to loose weight and tone up for summer, which is 6 months away. What types of weights and resistance should i be doing? i can't get to a gym, but i do have two hand held weights. I was once told that weights would be good for me as it would suit my body type and height 4ft 11. I ride a bike because i can't run, due to a foot problem. Im not very fit yet and am an absolute begginer, could some one please help with my question thanks
