This afibbers sources says so
and so does Krispin Magnesium update
I've contributed to a few threads on Place to buy magnesium?
Good brand of magnesium without fillers?
Magnesium glycinate dosage. and others ad infinitum I don't really want to go through all that information again it's all relatively up to date.

I wish I'd have known about it before my husband developed it. Do you think it will help him even though he already has it?

Here is a thread on the Bernstein's diabetes forum that deals with the issue of magnesium for diabetics.
It's all to do with inflammation and oxidation that drive the diabetes associated adverse consequences of the condition.

LOW MAGNESIUM results in the body absorbing excess amounts of iron.

Inappropriately liganded and excess iron causes oxidation which is implicated in many chronic conditions and in diabetes/Alzheimer's drives mitochondrial dysfunction and accelerates the ageing process

But it's a long term job restoring magnesium as it should be stored in bones and bone cells are replaced on a 10yr maintenance schedule so you have to stay in magnesium surplus all that time.
Most people are also vitamin D deficient and correcting that usually takes about 3yrs at around 10.000iu/d.
Omega 3 omega 6 imbalance probably takes 4~5 yrs to optimize.
So it's a long term business getting back to the level of anti inflammatory antioxidants you should ideally have.

Thank you so much for the links. I bookmarked this page and will read them thoroughly. What you said about it taking the minerals so long to get into the bones makes perfect sense. Good info and much appreciated.

It could be AMPK at work. Low carb diets activate AMPK and AMPK protects against hearing loss.

Can I just ask if a good multi-vitamin would cover the shortfall?
We take vitD3 (in Scotland there isn't enough sun to give adequate vitD), and we take multivits, and I take magnesium and kelp. SO if staying LC long term, would that give good nutrition?
