Question Results in Phase One? Need encouragement

I am starting South Beach today. I have been going back and forth trying to choose between SB and Atkins. My goal is to find a new WOE that will become lifestyle change for me. It seems to me as if SB is something I will be able to follow long term, with Atkins being a bit too strict. However, I know I will become frustrated if I don't see some early initial weight loss. I am not looking for a miracle diet, nor do I expect to shed tons of weight right away. But I would definitely like to see some initial results to help keep me motivated.
What were your results like in Phase One? Have you tried both Atkins and SB? Why do you prefer SB?? Any advice and/or encouragement is greatly accepted!

Hi Rachele,

I did atkins in the past and lost about 30 pounds on it, but over a period of about 4 - 5 years, I gained it all back plus a little more because I found the diet hard to stick to long term. I started SBD one month ago and so far I love it! Being allowed one sweet treat daily keeps me from feeling deprived and having a llittle fruit after the first 2 weeks does the same. I really feel like this is a diet I can live with for the rest of my life. It is not nearly as restrictive as atkins was. I lost about 6 pounds the first 2 weeks and a little more since then. The last week things have slowed down, but I am expecting to see that improve soon. Good luck as you start your plan! I hope you see the results you want!

8gk has given you some good points.
I will tell you that ou can expect to lose 10% of your total loss in phase I. For you that'd be about 2 lbs.
If you haven't already, do read the book. We have the food lists and meal plan guides right here and if/when they are followed, it is a key to success on SB.
Stay away from processed meats and other packaged foods. Keep your hard cheese intake to a max of 4 ozs per day and count that in with your 2 cup dairy daily totals. Get in all your veggies! Drink all your water!
Keep asking pointed questions and you'll get answers.
I've been following this plan since I started back in 2004, so 7 yrs now. I've made this a lifestyle change!!
Good Luck!

I started off on Atkins and then switched to SB. I find SB to be more of a Lifestyle program for me. Atkins wasn't something that I could see myself following for the long term. The key to success to any plan is being able to make the changes required for life. If you can't do that, then it's just a short term "fix" and you will eventually gain it back.

If you're looking at it as a lifestyle change, then the weight loss is really a secondary benefit. Remember you don't have alot to lose, so it will be slower for you than others who have more to lose. Be patient and it will pay off in the long run.
