Default magnesium question.

I've heard that Magnesium Citrate gives you 4x as much magnesium absorption as Magnesium Oxide. I've been taking the Citrate for a while now. But the last time I went to buy it, I saw Chelated Magnesium. How does this compare to the Citrate? It says it is absorbed much more easily.

Does anyone know the difference between the two and which one is better?
Thanks

Chelated magnesium is binded to an amino acid which makes it better absorbed than magnesium citrate.

I use Drs Best Chelated Magnesium. It never gives me diarrhea. I take 4-8 tablets/day.

Thank you, Zuliekaa. They were the same price, but the chelated had more pills in the bottle. I bought the Citrate, but next time, I'll buy the chelated.

You have to consider not how many pills are in each bottle but how many pills of each kind give you the same amount of elemental (usable magnesium).

A bottle might say 1,000 mg of magnesium but that amount of magnesium only contains 100 mg elemental/usable magnesium.

My understanding is that forms of magnesium ending in "-ate" *are* chelated.

people actually take magnesium citrate or oxide if they are constipated because they are not absorbable. i wouldn't bother taking that magnesium you have unless you are taking it for that reason.

dr's best magnesium is good because it is albion patented. whatever magnesium you get make sure it is albion patented!
you can get dr's best from iherb.com.

http://www.krispin.com/magnes.html#Deficiency

i am gonna get that jigsaw mag because it is slow release which means you don't have to take it as often. if you are taking regular, non-slow release, you have to take each pill separately because the body can only absorb so much at once.

take mag at least 20-30 minutes away from food.

hope this helps!

I just bought some magnesium supplements at my local grocery after reading so much wonderful information here, and I am wondering if you experts could give me your opinion on them.

They are capsule form; 3 capsules = 1 serving.
Per serving:
Magnesium (from amino acid chelate, malate, citrate) 400mg
Malic Acid 222mg

I took two capsules yesterday, 12 hours apart, at least 30 minutes away from eating.
I slept great last night with no aching legs for the first time in about a week!
I am hoping it is because of the magnesium; that is one of the main symptoms that led me to my research.

Any thoughts?

It's the magnesium. Sometimes potassium also works.

Thank you, Zuleikaa.

I am wondering if the form I purchased is a decent one? It is not the Albion patented that I have seen people recommend, but I wanted to start it sooner than later, and it is (at least partially) chelated.
