Default diabetic wanting to get off Novolog

Has anyone had any success with getting off regular insulin? I have been on Lantus and Victoza for some time but recently my endo put me on fast-acting insulin which of course is helping my blood sugars but I have already started gaining weight. I had this problem years ago when I was on regular insulin. I told the endo I was concerned about the weight gain but they are concerned about controlling readings. I gained about 50 lbs some time ago and then lost that and more on Victoza. I really do not want to jeopardize my health but I do not want more unwanted weight. I know a strict low carb can help - does anyone have any suggestions?

Really frustrated

Your stats show that you have been on the Dr Bernstein or Atkins plan since 2006 with no weight loss. Are those correct? At the 30 carb a day plan you saw no decrease in blood glucose to lower your dose of insulin, and they have been going up recently?

Here is the story of someone getting off insulin eating 10-20 carbs per day. It is not me, but she has continued to lose weight and be med free.

I have not changed my stats recently - I actually was at 266 and then went on Victoza and lost 60 lbs.

It helps us answer your questions if your stats are up to date and we know what plan you are following, so I will assume you are currently at your start weight and have limited your carb intake to no more than 30g carbs per day for nine years. Even keeping carbs at 30g carbs, your BG is not controlled and you have not lost weight.

Dr Bernstein has always offered to to answer patient questions, have you considered reaching out to him? He still does the teleseminars each month...and now records them.

Have you watched his Diabetes University series? All of Dr Bernstein's wisdom recorded in one place! This is a great resource that might help you.
Here is the Playlist, about 100 short sessions now plus the teleseminars.

Have you tried an even lower level of carbs? 10-20g? Dr Westman has said in talks that sometime post-menopausal women need to consider that for health improvements.

Have you considered fasting? ( see the Jason Fung thread. http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=461563)
This entire 18 part series on fasting explains it, this post in particular: https://intensivedietarymanagement....diabetes-t2d-4/

It must be frustrating, but those are my suggestions. Hopefully others will add more.

**ps. Understand that if you see Dr Westman once at his HealClinic in Durham NC, it might be possible to continue with a distance program. Dr Fung has one as well.

As the commercials say, ask your doctor.
