Default TOFU..Calorie

I think TOFU is too high in Calories & Fat.

Even though it contains a lot of protein and unsaturated fat, I am still worried about the high calaories and fat calorie...

I've always been wondering,
Is tofu good for diet?

Everytime I ate tofu I gained weight, I really don't know why. (I assume it's because of the calorie & fat)

I can't be sure if it's really good for losing weight.

does anyone know?

I think you can buy low fat tofu; also the total calories depends on how much you eat. If you eat a stir fry with tofu & vegetables, with less tofu & more vegetables, you could control your cals that way

Unless you are *very* small in build (five feet all or under, weighing less than 100-110 lbs.), or you have fewer than 10% of your body weight to lose, most people eating low carb (even vegetarians) do NOT need to worry about 'too much' calorie intake at ALL. Losing weight while eating low carb is not all, or even mainly, about 'calories in, calories out.' For more information about this, try this link to a paper recently published in 'Nutrition and Metabolism' on metabolic Syndrome:
http://www.nutritionandmetabolism.com/content/2/1/31

And of all the vegetarian protein sources out there, full fat tofu is one of the lowest calorie foods with the least heavily processed or 'extra' ingredients. One-fifth of a block of extra firm tofu, or about 3 oz. of a 16 oz. block, has approximately:

87 calories
5g fat
2g total carbs (1.5g ECC)
0.5g fiber
9g protein

Eat your tofu, if you enjoy it...but definitely don't rule it out as 'too high calorie.'

I'm not sure about this, but could you be sensitive to soy products? I think that food sensitivity can cause things like weight gain, discomfort, etc.

Blondie, food sensitivities (and people certainly can be sensitive to soy products like tofu) generally don't cause 'weight gain' as much as they contribute to water retention and bloating...which can look like weight gain, but is actually temporary.

If they cause discomfort, it will likely be excess gas/bloating.
