There are also old wives tales that suggest rubbing a stye on your eyelid with a copper coin (brass is part copper) or a black cat's tail. With three black cats I considered the later, but the thought of getting cat hair in my eye in addition to the stye was off-putting, so I bought some polysporin eye drops with the filthy germy coins in my wallet.

The allium, wine & bile cooked in brass probably leached out the copper and also provided immune support.

I thought it was interesting that it wasn't any one ingredient, but all of them together, that seemed to do it.
