Default Are my meals low carb?

Hello,

I haven't really read up on much to do with low-carbing, and am going by the rule that I just omit bread, pasta, rice, potatoes from my diet. But in one week, I feel slimmer but am only 2lbs lighter.

Here is an example of what I have been eating. Can you tell me where I am going wrong?

Breakfast - Coffee (with milk)

Lunch - Vege sausages with steamed veg or chicken breasts in tomato sauce or courgette pasta (where the courgette makes up the pasta) with pesto.

Dinner - Home made burgers without bun with salad and blue cheese sauce and bacon.

Snacks - Small chocolate (maybe 2 a day) a glass of wine.

Is this diet acceptable? I don't want to cut out treats like choc and wine, so will this mean my weight loss will be slow, or I wont lose at all?

It certainly is a lower carb way of eating than probably you were doing before you started eating this way, so I would not be surprised if you do lose weight!!

You could maybe start logging your food into the My PLAN facility here (link at the top of the page) and work out how many carbs you are eating to decide if your meals are as low carb as you want them to be.

If the wine is a daily thing for you it might slow your losing progress, as the body will treat alcohol as a "preferred fuel" rather than "burning" the foods you are eating.

My PLAN is great. I was paying £10 a month for that on Weight Watchers! Shame it is American products though.

Anyway, what is the recommended amount of grams of carbs per day for decent yet sustainable weight loss? I would say including chocs and wine I am currently around 30g.

Thanks!

Really there is no "recommended" number as far as I know. I have "met" people online who can eat only 10-15 net carbs and lose weight, and others who have got up to eating 100+ net carbs and are worrying about how the heck they can stop losing weight.
All you can do is try one number and see what happens.

If after any "woosh" of weightloss in the first week or so (most lose a lot of "water weight" to start with) you still lose weight quickly you might see what upping your carbs does, if you lose nothing then try lowering the carbs (or drop the chocs/wine for a week or so)
