Default Dexatrim in the 1980's?

Does anyone know what the diet pills/appetite suppressants, "Dexatrim", had in them in the early 80's? Was it phenylpropanolamine or was it ephedrine? Just curious. I wouldn't think of taking anything like that now, but did take them around 1981 to lose weight, and remember that they made my heart skip beats. I'm wondering if it was ephedrine that did that back then or the phenylpropanolamine.

(Crossposted in the Atkins and General Exercise forums.)
Thanks

In the 80s it would have had phenylpropanolamine.

Actually, Dexatrim with PPA wasn't pulled off the shelves until late 2000 ... check out this article in our Research/Media forum .. http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=75. In 2001, another OTC weightloss aid, Lipokinetix, was banned for containing PPA ... http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=26086

Unlike ephedrine, PPA isn't a thermogenic .. its an appetite suppressant.

Thanks Doreen and Dodger. I was able to find those articles when I googled the topic, and thought that it was the PPA, but I also saw that ephedrine was an ingredient also, and wondered if that's what had my heart throwing PVC's (skipping beats) back then. I know that the PPA has been implicated for causing strokes but didn't find anything about heart irregularities.Joan
