Default Take care of salt and your body will take care of you!

Interesting talk by Dr. Robert Cywes - "Salt is the cornerstone of our biology"

"... we've been chasing salt our entire existence as a species. How the hell is it suddenly bad for us!?"

Wow, That was excellent information!!!
I have never heard it explained like that, how the salt removes the fluid from our bodies as long as we aren't eating carbs and sugar.
I am eating less carbs than ever before these days and never sugar and there is no problem for me with bm ever. I use to eat lots of veggies, every kind because I thought the more the better....I was wrong.

Exactly the opposite of what the experts want us to think because they all want us consuming fiber for no good reason at all which in fact only taxes the colon for no reason at all.

Thanks Thud

Cywes has good advice in many areas related to diet health. Good video.

Here's another (longer) video on the importance of salt and the myths that have surrounded it over the past 30 years:

He said "the sugar retains a ton of fluid" "when the body stores the sugar, it gets used up or gets turned into fat, now all that excess fluid, because your low in salt goes into your tissues, then you swell up like the damn Michelin man, your ankles get swollen, your lungs get swollen your heart gets swollen, your blood vascular system gets swollen, your brain gets swollen almost like a mini concussion"

I really liked this doctor and his explanation of why we need salt and how sugar displaces it.
I had never learned the details of this before, other than just to eat more salt on LC.
Very interesting!

I'm going to be reading more about his "carb addition model" Many here proclaim they are "addicted to carbs" but then I see them binging and toying with ideas of how many carbs they can eat, net carbs, this and that and the like. I count myself in this crowd.

If you look at it like an addict the the choise becomes "binary"

This is OK to eat.

This is NOT OK to eat

No counting or anything, like what percent alcohol something contains for an alcohol addict. One KNOWS wether to drink or not to drink an alcoholic beverage if one has a problem with that substance. I cound myself among this crowd too

I wonder about that, carb addiction. My BFF since we were 3yo is an alcoholic. She has stopped drinking but is now making fruit shakes, eating lots of sugar like cookies and ice cream instead of eating real food. I think what she was doing through the years instead of eating dinner after work, she was drinking her dinner every night which morphed into day and night, although she was always a functional alcoholic.

Once when I was visiting her and I cooked dinner and had it ready when she got back from work. I could tell she was annoied because I think I had infringed on the drinking by making food.

I have thought about this a great deal and after she recovered I told her that I thought she was drinking her dinner every night. I now think it could be the carbs in the alcohol that drives the urge to drink, not necessarily only the alcohol, although I could be wrong.

Alcohol is a carb.

I understand her upset when you kindly made dinner. Its like a child looking forward to an icecream cone, only made to wait longer than the usual wait. And as an adult, it is worse....

I know how I feel when my oldest boy grabs a sweet out of my hand......for my own good. ....

He can walk away from sweets yet his brother and I cannot. I stopped feeling guilt and shame over a biological disorder. Often wish there was a pill for it.

The brain is a complicated organ, affected by thousands of biochemicals.
