Pain Management. Advice?
I take Omega fish 2grams a day. I started taking it after my blood work showed a slight cholesterol elevation. Anyway, the specialist I saw on Tuesday, I noticed posted in his exam room, it said that it is also recommended for chronic pain surgery, and arthritis pain.
I didn't see anything listed on doses, or if anyone has heard of it. I've googled omega for pain, says it is used but doesn't list dose. I figure it can't be higher than 3 grams, think thats the daily limit. Anyone heard anything about this? I thought i had tried it all for my pain, supplements, and haven't gotten anywhere.
I had cervical neck fusion a year ago. I had chronic pain before surgery, head ache etc, and I still have it. I hurt more now, than before the surgery. The pain is terrible, but i still just am not comfortable with the thought of all these meds. I see my neck surgeon on Thursday to discuss pain management.
I had an evaluation Tuesday, a specialist who's job was to tell me my impairment rating, it took 3 months to see him. He gave me names (the specialist i saw) of several non narcotic meds to take for pain, i noticed that they were all anti-depressants. They list side effects, some terrible. I know that i need help dealing with the chronic pain just normal day to day life brings.
The dr. told me it is what he recommends, a combo of a daily med to help control the pain, and a stronger one for break thru pain. Cymbalta, Lyrica, Ultram, NuCyntia, Hydrocoldone, Some taken daily, others for the white hot break thru pain i get. I took Celebrex for months, and saw no relief.
I rotate over the counter pain meds all day, everyday, Tylenol, Excedrin, advil. The over the counter meds have not helped my stomach, i have ulcers now. However, by taking them all day, everyday, I am able to function, they take the screaming pain and take some of the edge off. Without them, the 24 or so over the counter pain med pills i take everyday, and 11 supplements, i can not move without pain and have blinding headaches.
I do not take any narcotic pain pill since i am a professional driver, and the idea of relying on something that strong scares me-I was given heavy duty pain killers to take after surgery, tossed them. The dr. is telling me I can follow his advice and "pick" a daily med, or just live like this forever. I am not willing to do more surgery. I "healed" just as i should have, but it wasn't successful. I have also had shoulder surgery. All of this was related to a car accident i had two years ago.
Anyone have any knowledge of these meds?
