Default What's your Critical Carb Level for Losing?

After returning to induction after a Christmas binge and slowing going into OWL I think I've discovered my CCLL.

It seems I can lose if I keep the carbs to an average of 24g a day or less. Much over 25 and I just stand still.

I know everyone is different - I wonder if you know your CCLL?

I'm losing slowly at 30 grams of carb per day. I haven't pushed it farther than that because my plan doesn't allow that.
Perhaps when I reach my goal weight, there will be more room for "playing" with carb levels to see what my body can tolerate and still maintain a normal blood sugar range, but for now this is where I stay.

How does someone answer this survey if your CCLL is over 100? With regular and extensive exercise mine is over 100. (Much, much less without the exercise.)

Hi Caveman. If you can still lose weight at over 100g a day you are a very lucky man! I've recently joined a gym and I'm working out regularly now. I must admit that one of my secret motives was to raise my CCLL so that I could have more of the foods I miss. It seems like it hasn't happened yet but you've given me a ray of hope!

I'm maintaining at between 60-80 carb grams a day, but that's with tons of exercise. Robert, I do believe you'll be able to eat far more carbs once you've exercised your way to more muscle and less body fat. Of course age also makes a difference (I'm 54, and body changes come very slowly at my age).

It is so weird that you should post this now, my boss and I were just talking about this yesterday. He said he can't lose if he eats over 25, and I can't lose if eat over 20. I just joined a gym though, so I'm hoping that's going to help.

Until I get closer to goal, I am not going to play around with my numbers to see exactly how far I can push my carbs. Right now, if I exceed 25, things seem to stop or go EXTREMELY slow so I stay around the 20 carb range leaving the extra 5 for wiggle room and hidden carbs

Right now, I'm at 40g [with exercise.] Several months ago I was up to 50g [with exercise] and losing. I stop losing at about 50g if I don't exercise regularly. I have yet to figure out my CCLL with exercise.

Me too! I can eat up to 25 carbs and still lose a little and very slooowly, but then I start gaining if I hit anything unexpected. I have to be very careful about hidden carbs and portion control. I exercise daily - both walking and strenght training. I have to or I don't lose at all.

I am a lot like Marieshop, I keep at 20 and allow room for the five hidden ones I must consume. I try to stay under 25 because anything over 30 and I don't lose at all!

I lose between 30-35 with exercise. Between 35-40 is maintenance.

For a while I actually lost better at 35 than 30. Weird, huh?

I don't know what my CCLL, and being completely honest, the thought of trying to figure it out is intimidating to me. Currently, I aim to eat between 20-25 net carbs, but am not obsessive about it - I sometimes drop low (around 10) and have had days as high as 40. As long as my carbs come from LC sources, I'm A-OK with that - considering how much I have to lose, I'll be here for a while, and that makes this livable.

Actually figuring it out sounds rather time consuming and difficult for me. As it is, I lose my weight in "chunks"... nothing for a week or 10 days (sometimes more), then 2, 3, even 5 pounds in 2 days. Trying to figure out whether or not I'm slowing down would be a SLOW process. As it is, I try and take a rough look at how much weight I've lost over a month - and see if it seems to be somewhat consistent. However, so many things change in my life that it's hard to pin anything down to one cause Currently I'm adding in some physical activity - who knows what'll happen now I envy those who lose consistently and can figure out triggers, stall-causers and CCLL's with relative ease!

I am quite suprised by the poll results, to be honest. from ancedoteal posts it seemed that few ppl actually know there CCL... rather they choose a level of carbs they feel comfortable losing at (usually low) and are scared at upping or are convinced that more carbs will mean slower weight loss.

Hi--
I'm glad this thread was here--what seems to be the case with these testamonials is that most women don't have very high ccls. Like Sydnarella, I don't have much weight to lose, and am generally a small-sized person. I have lost 24 pounds, and I'm just 5 lbs from my goal. I exercise about an hour a day, 6 days a week and I'm BARELY losing on 20 grams a day. I was getting kind of frustrated until I read your posts. (I've lost 2 lbs in 6 weeks--I guess that's better than nothing!) I'm just wishing I could add a little more variety (especially fruit!) to my food choices. Oh well. I am feeling great, so I keep at it.
