Unhappy People Pop Screwup!

I can't believe I made this blunder!

For some reason I just assumed that sugar-free people pops were low carb!! I went online to check tonite... 15 IN JUST ONE! It didn't list any sugar alcohol either...

Please someone tell me there's sugar alcohol! (For once in my life I actually am WISHING for it!)

Some diabetic produts will just use fructose as a sweetner. That means still carbs and sugar, just no gluclose/dextrose.

I'm thinking it may be sugar alcohols htough if it is just a regular lolipop hard candy type thing. Still best idea would be to cut them out completely and try to get over the sweet addiction. Sip water compulsivly instead

The Carbsmart ice cream from Breyers is great - MUCH better than the nasty Atkins stuff, which I had to throw out.
It's very creamy and not chocolatey enough, but no aftertaste at all.

Tip - on the breyer's site's locator, when trying to find where it's on sale, they don't list it as Carb Smart but search for the thing called choc/vanilla/straw - this is the same product.

Now if only Ben and Jerry or Haagen Dazs would jump on the bandwagon.....

SF People Pops are made with Isomalt. It is a polyol (sugar alcohol).

Quote:
Isomalt, like all polyols, is a low digestible carbohydrate which is only partially digested in the intestines. In the lower part of the intestinal tract, some of the non-absorbed portion is metabolized by colonic bacteria. These normal physiologic processes, which may sometimes in some people cause softer stools or more intestinal gas than usual, are similar to how the body responds to high-fiber foods, beans and prunes.

A person’s response to low digestible carbohydrates, including isomalt, varies depending on the individual and factors such as one’s total diet, how much and when this type of carbohydrate is consumed. The few people who might be sensitive usually have no problem if they start with small portions and gradually increase their consumption of low digestible carbohydrates.

If sugar alcohols aren't a problem for you, yes, they'd be allowed. Isomalt causes me fewer problems than the rest, in fact I use Diabetisweet as a sweetener when baking. It works really well, and has a texture like sugar when used to dust lc toast for cinnamon toast...
