Default Ringing in my ears

A few days ago I started to get a loud humming noise in my right ear. I've tried putting cotton wool in to drown it out but it doesn't help. This is new for me and belive you me - it's driving me mad and I can't hear very well either!
Has anyone any suggestions to get rid of this or suffers themselves with it?

The only thing I know of to help with tinnitis (ringing in the ears) is to mask it some way. When I first got it, it drove me nutty - couldn't sleep. I got in the habit of sleeping with the television on - that helped.

There are some medications that can cause tinnitis - aspirin being one. Double check your meds to see if any of them could be causing the problem.

I've been on my meds for a few years now so I don't think its that. Today I've got cotton wool in my ears to mask it slightly, but seeing doc later today. It's sending me mad!

Glad you went to the doctor. Tinnitis can come from infection or stress.

Here's a page with treatments and it links to general information about Meniere's Disease.

Hmmm ... did you have any dizziness or hearing loss with it?? Did he diagnose you with Meniere's, or just suggest you try the medication?

He gave something that sounds like Betiastamine. They did the trick with the awful droning and ringing within a few days. dizzy speels have eased a little too - but that could be the strict candida diet I've been on for a few months now... Got my MRI scan results soon so hopefully it is the candida!
