Default Improved Vision

I have needed glasses to read for the past 10 years or so. I recently noticed I no longer need the glasses to read. At 74 years old most things in life are declining not improving so why the improved vision?

Since the first of the year I have not eaten any added sugar, bread, beer, potatoes, rice, pasta, nuts or fruit.

Starting February 1 I have ridden a recumbent stationary bike daily.

Those are the only changes I can think of to my daily routines. Prescription drugs have been the same for several years. I did add a vitamin D supplement about a year ago.

I am happy to ditch the glasses but I am curious about the reason for the improvement.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

That statement says it all. Great that you're experiencing unexpected improvements so quickly. Some have experienced vision improvements due to eliminating the very foods that cause and increase inflammation. Many with pre- and full type 2 diabetes have worsening vision sometimes including macular degeneration. Stay with your current WOE and you'll continue to "see" additional positive changes.

GRB1111 -

I figured it must have something to do with changes to diet but the inflammation angle did not occur to me. Thanks.

At my last eye exam my vision had improved. I have worn glasses since 5th grade and I am now 72. This is the first time that has ever happened. Also I have stopped wearing my glasses when I go out since they just fog up because of the mask. I seem to get along just fine. I figure my diet has something to do with it but I gave up all those nasty things more than a decade ago, so who knows? Maybe I’m getting younger instead of older.

I loved the book Sugar Crush, which explains how the inflammatory effects of carbs can literally crush the nerves which control all the muscles, including our eyes. This swelling is body-wide, and the finer the network, the more it is hurt by it.

Something that really scared me straight. So to speak

cotonpal - Glad to hear about your improved vision. For me it was a pleasant surprise and the last thing I expected.

WereBear - I just bought the audiobook of Sugar Crush. Thanks for the tip.
