I have a pkg of walnuts and the label says 1/4 c is 3g carbs and Fiber is 3g. Sugars 0. I have read so much about those hidden carbs, so I did the hidden carb calculator. It came up with 2.83 carbs.
Now.....can I deduct the fiber to actually make it 0 carbs?
HI!
I too have wondered about the same thing. When it says something in the book, it is not right all the time. You are suppose to be able to subtract the fiber content from the carb. content. I would like to hear what some of the other members that have been doing this for a long time would have to say about this. Angie
No, I think you have to assume that the fibre has already been subtracted. While nuts are not super high in carbs, there's no such thing as a completely carb free nut. Unfortunately.
According to Fitday, 1/4 cup walnuts has 4.11g carbs, with 2.01g fibre, leaving just over 2 g carbs.
I guess thats what confuses me about this fiber deducting.
How do you know what's been deducted and what's not? I thought that if they deducted the fiber they had to list that somewhere on the pkg??
So, when I figure my hidden carb calculator (even though the calculator doesnt know what it is Im entering the figures for) I go with that figure and dont deduct fiber at all?
OK,
I decided to do my Peanut Butter on the hidden carb calculator and now Im really confused!!
Serving Size 2 Tbls
Calories 200
Fat 18g
Carb 5g
Fiber 2g
Protein 8g
The calculator came up with 1.78g actual carb count
So, it has 1.78g instead of the 3g that I thought??
