Default Hello, it has been a long time since I posted

I just updated my journal for anyone interested.

I have been struggling with high blood pressure, excessive weight, diabetes and heart disease for many years now.

Well, I made a major decision this year. On 11/4/2013 I had bariatric gastric bypass surgery. I recognize it is a tool and can be defeated. Certainly, that is not my intention.

Since my surgery I have begun a new way of life and I am growing more comfortable with it each day. As a result of the surgery I can only consume about 3-4 ounces of food at a meal. I am doing 3 to 5 mini meals a day.

The rule with post op bariatric diets is protein first, then fruits/veggies and then some fiber. I am post op 4 weeks come this Monday.

The weight is falling off at a rate of 5-7 pounds per week.

I am off insulin completely. I am never hungry. My cpap machine settings are being reduced. I am about to adjust my BP meds since I need less. I am feeling so much better. I find I can live within these boundaries easily.

I will keep everyone apprised.

I wonder who is still here from the users I knew a year ago.

Best wishes to all.

Happy Holiday,

Ralph

Good to hear from you. Glad the surgery went well. Keep us posted. The surgery is indeed a tool, and I was uncomfortable both with those who said never and the advertisers who were inappropriately pushing it. Its a tool.

Hello RobLL,

Go to hear back from you as well.

I am making a huge investment in the rest of my life. I believe for me this is life saving surgery.

I am doing well. I am happy. Even my wife is losing weight now since she sees me consuming a less food and focusing on protein.

I consume between 800-1000 calories right now. The long term goal is 1200. Each day I make sure I get my 80grams of protein or a bit more.

Taking supplements, multi-vitamins, calcium, potassium, D3, etc.

Down 40 pounds as of this morning. I started to adjust my diet end of September 2013 while still pre-op. Operation was 11/4. I will be 4 weeks post op this coming Monday.

Still healing on a couple of incisions. I had 7 incisions. While in there the Doc found a huge hiatal hernia that he also repaired.

So, like it or not I am a low carber for life now.

I like it. I can do this.

Ralph

Ralph, I just got back today to this forum... sounds like you're going through a lot... Which type of bariatric surgery did you have? I think if work with this procedure, it should work for you. As with anything and everything, the effort is always equal to the reward... Good luck!

Best of luck with that. You have the determination, sounds like!

And that counts for a lot.
