Default Back to low carb and seeking support

Hi everyone! I have had a couple of great low carb runs in the past where I reached goal weight, and then maintained for 2+ years. Each time, I fell of the wagon and each time, it has taken me longer and longer to crawl back on.

I need to get on the LC wagon and stay there.

I am a food (carb) addict. I just finished reading "Food Junkies: The Truth About Food Addiction" by Vera Tarman. THAT IS ME.

Even though I am also in recovery from nicotine addiction for 13 years, and alcohol addiction for almost 12 years, I guess I just didn't believe my food addiction was real. I have struggled to "control it." Once I start with carbs, I just can't stop.

So with renewed determination, here I am at Day 1 of Atkins/Dr. Westman's plan. I have laid out my 20g carb plan for the day in Cronometer.

I would love to hear from others who have had success. I would love to hear from anyone who fell off low carb, and struggled to get back on, but have finally been successful.

I need to do this. I will be 62 in March and the excess weight is taking a horrible toll on my knees and hips and back. I know there is food freedom in low carb - I just need to find a way across that initial hump of transition time to fat burning.

Thanks in advance for your encouragement and support! I think I will also resurrect the old journal.

The first part might well be "most of us here." The second part: always a work in progress.

Addiction is real. It's a struggle above and beyond the challenge of the food environment, bad advice, and tracking stuff. Looks like you can take a lot of pride in your struggle so far. Eating well should be the, well, icing on the cake, if you'll forgive the imagery.

Being here on the forum is a good strategy.

Best wishes.

Hi,

I went on Paleo 8 years ago and lost about 18 lbs in 3-4 months. Then got sick, unrelated to the diet. And got overweight again.

I've been on this low carbs diet for 3 months. Almost 3. And I can say that it's not easy but it can be done.

All the best!

Welcome Back!
I'm similar to you, I eat primarily low carb, problem is I can't seem to string many days together anymore. And since I am 55 I need more consistent days to lose any weight at all.

I just wanted to say Hi

Hi Rachel! Looks like you are way closer to your goal than your start weight so good for you! I'm getting really determined to stick with it. I know it will get easier if I can just stay strict for the first few weeks.

Whatever method you used recover from two other addictions, can work for you with food. With Dr. Westman's plan, there is a bright line you do not cross. Is that food on "page 4"? No? then you don't eat it. Watch his campy old video, it is the same introduction class everyone gets at the Clinic. https://drericwestman.blog/dr-westmans-teaching-video/

You might also be interested in a few videos from the #CarbAddictionDoc, Dr. Robert Cywes. Links to his YouTube and wesbite on this thread: https://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=483479
His mini-series on CarbAddiction is good. Tough, but good.

Welcome back!

There are some of us (well, at least me) who first started using Atkins for weight control in 1972. To still be on the "struggle" I've obviously tried other methods along the way. Matter of fact, I've tried ALL other methods.

I'm doing Maintenance for some time now (3 years), but I'm almost 75 and if I were to go back to eating the old way, I'd gain it all back +++++. For me this is not a diet but a Way of Life. It's what my body requires to remain healthy and pain free.

The cost of giving up "eating for fun" is worth it for me.

I have read some of your posts and I'm so impressed with how you are maintaining. I love what you said about giving up "eating for fun." That is a great way to describe one of the things I struggle most with. I can handle the meals, but the urge for "recreational eating" is what gets me. I need to follow your lead, and just accept that recreational eating is not worth the cost to my health and my body.
