Default Ziploc omelets

This is not my recipe, it showed up in my email, but I thought I should share. You can make them immediately or freeze the mixed uncooked bag for future uses.

Shelley

ZIPLOC OMELETS

Crack and mix 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into a bowl. Add a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc. Or put them out for family to make their own (just make sure they mark their bag with a permanent marker). Zip bag removing as much air as possible.

Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes. You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. For more, make another pot of boiling water. Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily.

What a brilliant idea! Thanks for posting it. It's always a nuisance when making omelettes for a crowd to have to do them one by one and watch the frying pan so carefully. They're also inclined to dry up in the oven when you try to keep them warm.

Plus, it'll seem like astronaut food!

Very high-tech way of handling omelettes.

Let me tell you... I've tried these now from freshly cracked to frozen and thawed. Both worked so well. They completely solve the problem of overcooked dry omelets. I will try boiling it from frozen tomorrow and see what happens and check back in.

I had someone ask me about the freezer bags melting. I did manage to melt my bag a little at the top. I had it laying over the side of the pot and it was too close to the burner. But the part in the water doesn't melt.

I wonder how long it would last unrefrigerated - for instance, overnight?

Or, barring the raw approach - would it last cooked (and refrigerated at home before leaving), and then allow re-heating in the morning?

I'm thinking of food ideas for weekend training exercises, so I don't have to eat the Army's version of "food" (the vacuum-packed, barely recognizable versions).

I wonder if I had one of those vacuum sealers would it last any better unrefrigerated (cooked or uncooked)?

Had to write back, This has become a stable in my house hold for the weekends, especially Saturday (before we go shopping)
You can put leftover meat and veggies, as long as you have cheese (at least in my house hold), no one goes hungry.
Now my problem is keeping eggs in the house.. a first

Fabulous idea! Sometimes it's just too much trouble to cook for one in the AM, this way you just can make a huge batch, pour, seal and freeze and have a yummy, legal breakfast whenever you want! Love it. Great tip.

thanks so much.

What a cool and creative idea! My only concern would be whether it is safe to heat the bags like that. I know when you microwave plastic it breaks down into the food.......do you think it would do the same here?
