Default Dirty Hippie

When I lived in Colorado I liked eating breakfast at The Buff in Boulder. They had a bizarre drink on the menu that I just had to try: the Dirty Hippie. It's a soymilk chai latte with a shot of espresso (might have been two shots, not sure). Strange as it is, it's absolutely delicious and very addictive.

They make it with chai concentrate, which has HFCS. I admit that my version is not as delicious as the original, but it's still good.

- I microwave a cup of unsweetened almond milk (or half diluted with water).
- After it begins to bubble, I empty one Tazo chai teabag into it. I empty the teabag into it because the teabag wants to float on the surface of the almond milk like a balloon.
- Let it steep for five minutes
- Strain into a warmed mug.
- Then I add a shot of espresso and sweetener to taste.

After I've had these a few days in a row plain coffee starts to taste like it needs some chai in it and plain chai tastes like it needs a shot of espresso. I usually just drink black unsweetened coffee and to me this tastes rich and decadent and delicious. If you have occasion to try the original, do it.
