Default roller coasting?

I haven't been on it since 1980's so have forgotten.

I've only been on LC for 8 days.
Is it typical to lose 3 1/2 lbs and then gain back 2 1/2 overnight without eating a lot of salty foods?

This works for me: lower carbs (under 20), no 'vegetable' oils, higher fat (twice as much fat than protein) and fast 12 hours before your first meal of the day.

Julie, welcome back to better health. I see that you've read Atkins and I'm guessing that's the plan you're following.

My suggestion is that you pick a plan and stick with it since you have so little weight to lose. Keto is just another name for Atkins Induction so try not to be overwhelmed by the different names.

Because I'm older I have some parts that are wearing out or wearing down. I have osteoarthritis and because eating to ketosis is anti-inflammatory, most of the time I have NO pain. I hurt my hip walking in July. Very unusual for me. I stopped walking that day to rest and repair. Today the orthopedic specialist told me what I've been doing is the right thing.

Age catches up with us all, but nobody wants to be in pain.

You can do this. Don't give up.

Thanks Glenda. I am 77 with many, many health problems. I have to limit my walking. I am trying to stay low on my carbs for a few weeks. I finally got over the nausea and almost gave up yesterday. Then I woke up this morning and had gained 2 1/2 lbs back. Talk about getting discouraged. I've been down to about 22-24 carbs a day. My GERD is serious and even though I've had it for a number of years and on meds I have Barrett's, a pre-cancerous condition. So I just wanted to get the few lbs off that I gained.

So very sorry about the Barrett's. My GERD was so bad, but I don't want to compare my situation with yours. I don't take meds, but I even paid for and got a natural remedy, and it worked for me. I haven't had an incident since 2008. I remain vigilant and take precautions if I feel the burn start. I have to eat early in the day, especially if the food is spicy. I don't eat after 3 pm because I go to bed very early.

I so hope you find the right combination for you.

Hi Julie. I also wish you well in finding what will work for you. Do you know what foods irritate your stomach and esophagus? I have to eat gluten-free and for me, reflux is one of the first clues that I 'glutened' myself. Another is overnight water weight gain, like you described. There are probably a lot of other irritating foods, too, mostly in the plant family. An elimination diet might be a good idea. If I suspected further food intolerance, I'd probably either go carnivore or stick as closely as I could to Dr Westman's M.E.A.L. concept: meats, eggs, added fats, and leaves (lettuce only if I was testing food intolerance, then try others.)

Could you share some sample menus that you've been having? Someone might be able to spot something.

Best of luck.

Several years ago I went gluten free for 3 months and it didn't make one bit of a difference. Recently, I went dairy free again. Absolutely no difference in how I felt. I do follow a good diet for GERD from the Dr.

Here is an example of what I've been eating.
I have to eat often so eat more than 3 times a day.

Breakfast: Adkin's Protein drink
coffee with cream/stevia

Lunch: 2 egg/sausage muffins (1 carb each)

Afternoon snack: 1 oz. of either walnuts or peanuts

Dinner: Baked chicken w egg wash/Parmesan cheese
Big green salad with some red pepper and Hidden Valley
ranch dressing. (2 carbs/2 oz.)

Snack: Carbmaster low carb yogurt (4 or 6 carbs)

Am I not eating enough?

Glenda, I'd sure be interested in the natural remedy you are taking.

Here's a useful link on possible causes:

https://www.allergylink.co.uk/diges...omach-acid.html

DH is on Betaine HCL (bottom of post) to retrain his stomach to make acid in the right amounts. I did that also. If you hadn't been getting enough protein, the body might need a jump start.
