This thread has a lot of good ideas.

In addition to the ideas in that thread, jicama and tofu come out nicely in the deep fryer.

I see you're in Ontario. If there's a Giant Tiger near you and you want to save a few bucks, see if they're selling their 3-lb tubs of Tenderflake (non-hydrogenated) lard for $2.97. I got some the other day. That's a little healthier to fry in than vegetable oils. You might not be able to use the solid fats in certain fryers, though.

I just got one and I have yet to fire it up! I was going to do chicken wings and toss them in Louisiana Hot Sauce and melted butter.

Chicken wings would be my first choice! I simply let them sit around 1/2 a day in the fridge with a bunch of Tex Mex spices on them and deep fry.
