I think above 76 degrees it's a liquid. If the temps lower it's a solid. Just scoop out some of the coconut oil and microwave it...you'll get your liquid!

It does turn solid at room temperature, and like a brick if you refrigerate it. I thought it would keep longer in the fridge... yeah, because you can't get a SPOON in it to use it!

Even setting the jar in a basin of hot water does the trick.

Where do you all find coconut oil? I went to two stores today (Winco, formerly CubFoods and Safeway) and even with the help of staff was unable to find any. Do I need to go to a natural food store? Is it usually with the cooking oils or the asian foods (near coconut milk) or what?

Thanks a bunch,

Jen

fractionated coconut oil is in liquid form. I use FCO for massage oils and cosmetics but you can eat it. It only contains the medium chain triglycerides, thats why its liquid. You can also just warm up the regular coconut oil.

Regular coconut oil is usually only in liquid form in warm climates

http://www.wildernessfamilynaturals.com has great virgin coconut oil.

Stores like whole foods and health food stores also tend to carry it but I really dont care for the ones my stores carry. They either lack flavor or they have a funny smell.

the walmart coconut oil is down right nasty. I really love the wildernessfamily naturals coconut oil and dried coconut products, it's a much higher quality.

For the bark I take and melt the oil in a small pan. I then add the coconut, cocoa, and sweetner all into the pan, then cook it a little more to help the sweetner disolve. After everything is smooth I place it in a pie plate or other flat dish and put it in fridge to cool and harden.

If you had an oil that started as a liquid, then it would stay a liquid and not harden into the bark.

I've found it at health food stores, netrition.com, and even eBay.
