When you are starting up again, stick to fresh food, lots of eggs, fish, meat, lots and lots of green vegetables, some cheese, butter, olive oil, cream, nuts etc. Try to avoid bars and low carb products until you are sure you know what you are doing and how they affect you.
The main thing to look for when you are reading labels is total carb count. Then look at fibre. Fibre needs to make up a significant part of the carbs or you can't eat it. Also, watch out for sugar in any form, and any form of fake sugar. Don't believe flashes on the front of the packet claiming "Sugar-free" or "No added sugar" or "Low carb".
