Interesting!

For centuries, ginger root has been used as a folk remedy for a variety of ailments such as colds and upset stomachs. But now, researchers at the University of Georgia have found that daily ginger consumption also reduces muscle pain caused by exercise.

Ginger contains all the electrolytes, especially potassium. See more here:

Thanks for posting this, Nancy. Lately I've been struggling with excessive soreness post-exercise, so I will give this a try.

The Indian diet is quite high in ginger. Not sure if it reduces aches and pains.

It was a wonderful thing for my morning (all day, actually) sickness while pregnant, though.

It also has a lot of tumeric (the stuff that makes curry yellow) which is known to help with joint pain. I love Indian cuisine!

Yeah, turmeric is supposed to be an awesome anti-inflammatory.

I am going to have to try ginger next time I get one of those random muscle spasms I seem to get. Someone here makes "ginger beer". Really it's just a lot of grated ginger and water that you let set out to ferment slightly for a few days. Then mix the resulting liquid with sparkling water or diet tonic. Really good!

GT's Kombucha has a gingerade flavor that is really spicy and good. Obviously not the same thing, but sounds a little similar to ginger beer since it does have light carbonation/fizz.

If you're making curry, just grate some ginger (about a teaspoon), fry it in a little butter/oil and add - the flavor is yummy.
