Default Bread for Life Diet... insanity!

Just ran across an article for the Bread for Life Diet in the current issue of Women's World magazine and thought I would post it for a chuckle. Daily you get:
6 servings of starch (preferrably 2 slices of 'light bread')
6 oz of protein foods (meat, eggs, cheese)
6 servings of vegetables (salad or soup)
6 servings of fat (preferrably reduced fat mayo and such)
You're also allowed 1 piece of fruit and 1 glass of wine each day if you want it.
3-4 times a week you are permitted a "large" 3 oz portion of meat.

I'm sorry, but how is this radically different from the good old government's food pyramid? I mean a sandwich made with 2 slices of light bread, 1 oz of meat, and a schmear of light mayo plus a handful of veggies does not make a meal... it's starvation. Don't ya think?

Wow... if you're anything beyond bedbound, I'd say that's so not enough protein. Enjoy the flu season!

When I was following the diet recommendations given to me by a nutritionist, that sandwich was a typical meal. And, yes, it did seem like starvation. Hunger was a normal state and thinking about the next meal was what occupied my mind. I could only stand it for a short teme before I went on an eating spree. It was not a natural way to live.

Ya know, I actually considered going to school to be a nutritionist, but was turned off by the realization that I would be taught all that high-carb/low-fat nonsense. And I couldn't in good conscience tell clients to eat in a manner that I didn't agree with.

Viva le fat and protein!

Ahhhhh... Women's World. I love that magazine! Half starvation diets, half dessert recipes.

Maybe if I ate the ounce of meat while looking at the picture of the triple-layer fudge cake, I could pretend......

I thought that this might fit in well here on an early push to eat more bread, and a cynical reviewer.

I found the link on Dr. Mike Eades' Blog.

For a cynical look at a promotional item for increasing bread consumption and some snide reviewers comments, click here.

Even Jet Pilots eat bread. ;-)
