Cool I'm back and ready to kick butt!!

Well I had it hard the first time with painful constipation and stinky sweat but I'm back to take a shot at this again. I'm tired of failing diets! I feel like I'm such a failure at this stuff!!! The thing is is that I have lost weight in the past. I went from 190 lbs to 130 lbs got pregnant then lost all but 5 lbs of it then gained 7 more. I'm a homemaker and am bored out of my mind most of the time. Chewing on food just helps me some times. I don't like eating all the time but I would like to eat when I feel like it not when my stomach is growling! When I eat that way I get so hungry I eat everything in site! Well I know that last time (last week) I tried the Atkins diet for the first time and had bad constipation, but what made it even worse was when I took a suppository( NEVER AGAIN!!!!!) I should have just waited til my body decided that I should start moving! I don't know............I've been trying to lose this weight for over 1 year and it is only 27 lbs!!!!!!!!!......... Plus I'm not going to tell my husband that I'm doing this because he doesn't like me going on and off diets. It discourages me to even try because I have failed sooo many times in front of him with dieting and I want to surprise him. He doesn't want me to lose weight but he does get tired of hearing about these new diets and then how I failed them! Any advice anyone?

I can assure you, this way of eating is worth a second chance. For your previous problems, this comes straight from the FAQ section of the Atkins website:

Since beginning Atkins, I am often constipated. How can I avoid this?
Some constipation is common during the first week of the Induction phase. This is due to the change in diet, especially the reduction of fruit and vegetable fiber. Be sure that you are taking in at least three cups of salad vegetables and not using your carb allotment on other foods. After the first few days, your body should adjust and constipation shouldn’t be a problem. And when you begin to add more carbohydrates, your first choices should be more vegetables, followed by seeds and nuts and berries.

If constipation continues, there are a several remedies. First, make sure you are drinking eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day. Inadequate hydration is the main reason for constipation. Most people, especially women, don’t drink enough water and are slightly dehydrated much of the time. Second, consume some supplementary fiber in the form of wheat bran sprinkled on a salad, psyllium husks mixed with water or ground flaxseed blended into a protein drink. The amount needed to stay regular varies from person to person. Start with a tablespoonful. It may take a few days to find the amount that works for you. Do be careful not to use too much fiber; in excess, it can actually act as a binder. Finally, increasing physical activity often helps.

Default Hey Thelma - Where are you from in IN?

I just graduated from IU in Bloomington...small world

On the subject of constipation, definitely drink water and eat those veggies, but if that doesn't help...

I had major consipation issues for the longest time...I started drinking something hot in the morning and also started drinking Citrell (I think I spelled it wrong). If you decided to go this route, do not buy BENEFIBER, which has the carbs for fiber already subtracted out of the total carbs...very deceiving those marketing people

Anyway, about the hubby thing and the homemaker thing - I'm in the same boat. My boyfriend (basically husband, we've been living together for three years) is not the best support for diets. I crave the support and encouragement and he just wants his pasta and corn. I think he's tired of my failures on diets too and just wants me to be happy. This site is great for the support and encouragement so remember, we're here About the homemaker thing...I am home all day too and haven't quite figured out how to keep myself busy. I was watching this dieting specialist of the stars that ET was featuring and she said, "if all else fails - eat in the nude" - I tried it and I don't eat/snack/ bunch if I see myself naked...lol.lol.

Good Luck,
E
