Default EEEEK Too much sweetener!

Trying to be vigilant with fitday, but never before have I counted packets of sweetener. Yesterday, I had 10 grams worth of sweetener! AND it was all in coffee & tea...

Who knew? well, at least now, I do! I never realized!!!

That's why Dr A said no more than three packets a day... if you want the sweet taste without the carbs, you may want to try Davinci SF syrups. They're water-based, not powder..so no starch fillers!

Thanks, I was wondering about that stuff. I thought it was more of a flavouring than a sweetener! I'll check my Wal-Mart tonight.

I really don't have much of a sweet-tooth, but I love sweetened coffee.

I just found out the same thing!! I have been having OVER 20 grams of Splenda a day. I thought the 3 packs were only for sacchrine. No wonder the scales haven't moved in a few days! Well I intend to do better! Wet water, wet water!

Hugs and Blessings

Waaaait a minute... Davinci is sweetened with Splenda, so that's not going to help either...

It's the FILLER, not the Splenda that has the carbs. They use maltodextrin as a "carrier" for the sweetener or you'd basically get a microscopic speck in an envelope if they didn't use SOMETHING to give it "form".. The syrups use WATER as a carrier...no carbs.

Hi Suzanne:

Splenda doesn't have the carbs. It is the starch in the packet of splenda that gives you about 1 carb per packet. When splenda is sold in liquid form as in DaVinci's or Torani's there are NO CARBS so that is why I bought 12 bottles for every mood straight from their website - even with the small shipping charge - it is the BEST price I can find on them. Wonderful company, wonderful product!

you can get liquid no carb splenda here

http://www.locarber.com/

the first time I was on Atkins 2 years ago some of the mailorder places could get splenda brand liquid imported and I used that with no problems, the stuff locarber sells is the same syrup used to make sodas, syrups etc

Just to be a party-pooper for a minute..SOME people find that any sweeteners, even with no carbs serve to whet their appetite for MORE sweet things, even setting off cravings for the "real thing" that are pretty unpleasant.

To that end, the best way I've found to break my dependence on sweet tastes is to go cold-turkey WITHOUT them, even for just a few days.

It's amazing how easy it makes it to get by with less.

Amen! I don't just get cravings for other "banned substances" but my weight slams to a screeching halt as soon as I have much in the way of LC dessert type foods. And I only ever use Splenda tablets - 0.075 carbs per tablet. My body just seems to think that all sweet things are sugar.

Just something to be aware of.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one going crazy with the sweet coffee. I like 1 cup coffee 2 packets of splenda and 1tsp vanilla Davinci. Shame on me. I never have desserts though or any type treat that is my treat. I save alot of my carbs for sweetner and coffee. As far as cravings maybe I am lucky at something. I can drink several cups of coffee (sweetend) for days in a row and no cravings for sweets. I still seem to loose weight okay too. It might all catch up to me soon though.

We lucky Aussies find them on the supermarket shelves. They have just appeared in the UK, so maybe they'll pop up soon in the US.

This thread discusses how to order them on the net.

Cheers.

I pretty much gave up on the sweetners, etc. I wasn't losing weight very fast with them and got bad cravings. I switched to just eating things like strawberries or raspberries for dessert with some whipped cream, and finally started losing again. --just my 2 cents
