Default Shiritaki?

Does anyone know where in Moncton I can buy Shirataki noodles? I'd like to try them, apparently they're 0 casb Japanese noodles. Thanks for any and all help!

Any grocery that sells Asian foods should have them. Look in the refrigerator section; they're sold in plastic pouches with a watery "brine". Drain and rinse well before using.

hth,

Thanks Doreen, I'll look the next time I'm in. Have you ever used them? I figure it's worth a shot...

I have not tried Shirataki Noodles but will soon to try a more solid noodle.

I get Konnyaku Noodles from most of the stores in Chinatown. They work out to one ECC/noodle cluster (about the same volume as a 9 V. battery with several noodles woven together) and come in a liquid in cello wrap and a plastic tray.
They are almost tasteless and cannot be unwrapped and fried up like other noodles since they are largely water and do not have the firmness of other noodles.
They work out great in soups and stir fries but need to soak up a lot of flavor or come out as a tasteless, jelly-like mass.

I have NOT found these anywhere here in Toronto. So if anyone has found them, please! let me know where you found them. I did order the noodles from the US and they are terrific. I got the angel hair pasta and thicker noodles too, and found the angel hair the best - quite a great substitute for regular pasta (and found the thicker ones, just to rubbery).

If you ask for them in an Asian store and they don't recognize the name, ask for Konnyaku instead.

I'm falling in love with them.

Wa'il,
How are you using/cooking these?

I tried frying in a hot pan and they don't work great due to the high water content. In curry soups or a stir fry they work since they pick up a lot of flavor but still come out with a texture that I am just not used too.
I even unwrapped a few to have them loose in strands but they were not quite up to what my palate expected.

Although I a little wary of the actual carb reading on Dreamfields Pasta, I still find it the best LC replacement for a dish calling for noodles.

I drain them, and cut them, then drain again. It doesn't bother me that they are wet, since I use them with sauce anyway Examples, chicken currey, butter chicken, and as chow mien with bean sprouts. Just tried them with chicken alfredo as well, with garlic and pesto.

I've never tried dreamsfeild though, but these Konnyaku noodles taste great to me. Best part is the high fiber, you can feel it!

I actually cut and pasted the pictures from your link Karen (both types) and took it to three stores in Chinatown but the staff did not know this product. I'll go down to a few others this evening and if no luck I'll check the larger stores when in Toronto.

I emailed the company that makes it - found in Karen's link. I found the product today - at Japanese on Augusta, 199 Augusta in Kensington Market.

None of the 3 stores listed were in Ottawa though.

Back to induction on Tuesday; these will be of great use.
