Smile How do you add the nutitional information?

Can someone please help me. I hate being computer illiterate! I am new to using My PLAN, I read through, but can't find an answer to my question: How do you add the nutitional information? I added a recipe, but can't figure out how to add the carbs/protein/fat/calories.

Thanks.
Laura

Once inside My PLAN, on the left, click on "New Custom Food".

Give it a name, enter in the serving size, and then the label information

If you want the information for the recipe you added, you have to add the ingredients one by one. Go to your recipe, click on "Edit" and you'll see a little search box. Use that to search for each ingredient. There will be box that says "Add ingredient to recipe." Click on that once you've highlighted the proper ingredient on the search list. The numbers will show up at the bottom of your recipe.

You can also make selections from your list of Favorites. Once you have entered the last ingredient, you're finished.

I have to leave now, but I'll check back when I get home. If you have more questions, don't hesitate to post them. I'm sure Krys and others will be happy to help you, too.

Tamarian had to give me almost one-on-one and step-by-step guidance, before I finally caught on.

Once you "get" it, you'll be amazed at how easy it really is. If you want to try again, don't hesitate to ask for help. I would be happy to talk you through it, the way Tamarian did for me, if you like. And if I'm not around, I'm sure one of the other members would be more than happy to assist you.

Perhaps this thread will help you:

Oh, thank you Kisal, that link was just what I needed.

I do have another question, though. How do you add your own brand of ingredients to the recipe. Does the search for bar allow you to customize for your own brands?

Also, how do you update or change items in a recipe?

Thank you!

You can add any food to your list of Custom foods. I do that before I create a recipe that calls for the ingredient. Then, all I have to do is select it from my list and click the "Add ingredient" button. I have, for instance, added erythritol, flax meal, and several other items that I use in recipes, as Custom foods.

Have you added Custom Foods before? Have you checked out the Sticky about My P.L.A.N.? It has a lot of good basic information.

http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=275397

To edit one of your recipes, just click on Food Lists in the menu on the left of your My P.L.A.N. page, then click on Recipes on the far right at the top of the food list page. That gives you a list of all the recipes you've entered. Each recipe name is followed by the words View and Edit. If you click on the word Edit, you will be able to alter it in any way you like.

When I added custom foods, it changed the amounts of carbs, protein, fats, etc after I entered it. I went to the STICKY that you suggested, but didn't see my problem.

I added my brand of Flax meal and that changed. I just tried adding Ragu and all of that changed. What am I doing wrong?

From the Ragu jar I entered:
Serving size 0.5 cup
Carbs (10g-2fiber) I put in 8; Protein 2; Fat 2.5; Calories 70
I wound up with:
Carbs1.9; Protein 0.5; Fat 0.6; calories 17

Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong?

Thanks.

I just entered your Ragu in my My P.L.A.N. as a test, and I got the same result -- actually slightly different, but close enough. What happened was that the numbers all defaulted to match the "1 ounce" you probably set in your Settings, rather than the 1/2 cup, which would be 4 ounces, that you entered as a "serving". That's just how the program works. When you enter the food in your Daily Entry, you'll see that the numbers are correct for the 1/2 cup serving size.

Why not enter a serving of Ragu in your Daily Entry for today, just as a test, to see if it does show up correctly? You can remove the entry once you see how it works. Let me know if it doesn't work right, but I'm pretty sure you'll find that it's okay the way it is.

I'll be around most of the day. I'm sitting here with a broken foot, so I won't be doing much more than going back and forth to the utility room, trying to catch up on the laundry.

One thing I do, though, is to enter the Total Carbs in the Carbohydrate By Difference spot, then scroll down to the next section below to enter the Fiber. That's only possible when you use the Custom Serving Size format, which I always do -- not because it's especially "better", only because it's my personal preference.
