Default Symptomless Hypothyroidism??

I have never had any great health problems (knock on wood), but after 11 days on Atkins induction -- adhering very strictly to induction rules, I have not lost an ounce. My pants are fitting the same as ever, despite eating well, exercising regularly and drinking tons of water.

I have not cheated one bit on my low-carb plan: not one breadcrumb, not one grain of processed flour, sugar, potato, not one packed of aspartame, not one drop of caffeine -- but I can't get the scale to budge.

Anyway, although I don't have many symptoms of hypothyroidism (besides no weight loss and very dry hair and lower-than-98.6 body temps), is it possible that hypothyroidism could be my problem?? How do I find out? Would my regular family doctor be able to test me for this problem? I remember hearing that hypothyroidism is sometimes very hard to diagnose. What do I need to do to find out if this is indeed my problem?

I'm sorry if I'm bothering you with all the newbie questions here, but I have never given serious consideration to the fact that I could have something like this -- until my very frustrating 2 weeks of not losing on induction.

Thank you all for your help.

Pam

I'm borderline hypo, your doc can test your TSH(thyroid stimulating hormone) the norm is like .5-5.5

Hope this helps:

Hey there...actually, there are new TSH guidelines. The new range is .40-2.0

Go to this website http://www.nacb.org/lmpg/thyroid/3c_thyroid.pdf

and go to the section on thyroid...then tsh...then scroll down to 22a

Most doctors don't keep that up to date so it's a good idea to "arm" yourself with the information before approaching your doctor. It's very possible to be a symptomless hypo...but the truth is..once you get on a good regimen of treatment, you'll realize you weren't that great to begin with!! Good luck!
