Robin, you may be right...I was under the impression that he is on the typical T2D regimen.

Just was watching a Dr Charles Mobbs interview
as I read your comment. Ketogenic diet is gold

But, just getting my "stuff/life" in order.
Thanks again.

RythmBeat- if you are on insulin and your plan for hypos is to find a gas station, i am frankly shocked and glad I drive more than 3000 miles away from you. You NEED a source of sugar in the car- i use glucose tabs, as they work the quickest and are easy to measure- each one is 4 carbs. plus they are shelf stable for life and don't taste good, so you won't overeat them. other good options are dried fruit or small (4oz) juice boxes.

I'm going well. 3000 miles away would put you off shore from Savannah GA
Like I said, I was feeling very hungry and needed/wanted carbs.
Stopped off at a pizza joint. Felt bad afterword.

Therefore this thread was started,
and a "car box" of nuts and peanut butter has been installed.

Just sharing, since I started eating LCHF program foods,
my insulin requirements have dropped, more than expected.

Thanks again for "car stored food" suggestions.
Something about cheese and salami sitting in my car for a month
just does not feel good. I do not like those anyway.

But, nuts and peanut butter already are in my new "car box".
Probably will add jerky. Any other "car storable" food suggestions
will be greatly appreciated.

Important that foods are simple to prepare, not messy to eat,
easy to store and have "car staying power".

I actually asked a restaurant if they offer "leaf burgers" ~ yes

Pull over I did
Learned a lesson.

I saw you post your Dr has already your insulin dose- that is great, but i would definitely keep glucose tabs on hand, until you are OFF insulin. The oral agents don't cause lows, they just make your body receptive to the insulin you do produce, and so they reduce highs. But insulin of course can and does produce lows.
While you are adjusting to new diet, i would encourage you test your BG very frequently, particularly before driving. it is really easy to lose symptoms of hypos as the years go by, but that doesn't mean you are not impaired. It is a HUGE issue for types I's and there have been a number of police brutality cases where a type I was mistaken for a drunk driver....and those are "luckier" than the ones who end up in crashes, injuring themselves or others.

And i agree pb and nuts and jerky are great options- i think people meant the cheese and salami for a day trip

quest bars are great, too- also there is an overpriced but tasty snack sold in grocery store and even starbucks called moon cheese. it is a crunchy little snack, made just from cheese and shelf stable. they are like cheese puff snacky type of thing.

and haha, I'm in DC- so yep pretty close to 3000 miles

i really am glad you pulled over! i had my pump malfunction last fall, and had just pulled over when i realized something felt odd. less than 60 seconds later i started seizing, slammed my head into sidewalk and was knocked unconscious. i thank God, i was not still behind the wheel.....

ETA- just to show how insidious low symptoms can be: i had left my apartment 10-15 minutes before this seizure occured, and my fiance had kissed me goodbye and said to have a good day at work. I seemed completely normal to him....
after being given glucagon and juice, the medics first took my blood sugar at a level of 42. i must have been far lower before that.....

I've become a fan of Epic meat bars. They taste good & are a lot easier on my elderly teeth than jerky. They come in different flavors with varying carb counts. The lowest are zero, the fruit-added ones go up to 12 or more.

I keep a couple in my purse for emergencies.

This is how I can eat anywhere; pizza toppings, sandwich innards, hardboiled eggs.

Learn the tricks and you will rarely be without a good option. I once had butter in coffee when everything else at the conference was pure carbs, and I was fine

Hi! Does butter and coffee raise low BGL's?

Or were you more thinking about getting something
LCHF at the conference?

Butter (good fats) and coffee were my "meal" when all else was that Continental breakfast nonsense. Lunch at the conferences was sandwiches, and I ate several, only ditched the bread

Coffee might affect your blood sugar, but fats generally do not.

I was using it as an example of even in the worst situations, there might be something you can eat.

I've done that too, and had more butter for lunch when the sandwich fillings looked suspicious, all this even before I found the "Butter Snackers" thread on this forum
