Default Invocana?

Anyone here taking Invocana (SGLT-2 inhibitor)? And if so, what is your experience on it?

I'm considering asking my doc for a trial run to replace insulin, but am concerned about the possible side effects of yeast infections and/or urinary tract infections.

No experience, only have read of the same side effects.

Your last BG numbers you mentioned were great, why do you want to add a new medication when you are at the point of getting off insulin? Dr Fung has mentioned it, interesting to see what your doctor thinks about them.

Thanks for the link. I'm no where near getting off insulin and doubt I ever will completely unless I find another med to add to Metformin. My interest in Invocana is that it possibly reduces insulin resistance, and that is what I'm aiming for. It also has a weight loss effect, which would be nice. I just need to do more research before making any kind of decision.

The doc put me on Jardiance which is the same class of med as Invokana but doesn't have an interaction with Digoxin which I also take.
In three days I've stopped all but 6 units of NPH insulin at night (helps with dawn phenomena) and have dropped 3 lbs. All of which is water considering I'm peeing twice the amount as before.
I got side tracked diet-wise last week and my weight bumped up a couple of pounds but am back to 30-40 grams of carb beginning today and plan on doing two 24 hour fasts this week.
I hope I might be able to get off insulin completely with the combination of IF and LC but Jardiance doesn't seem to be lasting a full 24 hours -- maybe it will build up in my system after a time and I can completely stop the insulin.

Abilene, I hope you will post occasionally your experience with SGLT2 inhibitors, like Jardiance. I too am interested, especially since Dr. Fung mentioned them in his book. My reluctance however is this:

But I guess we all need to know going into a new drug their potentials, both good and bad. So keep in touch periodically and some of us will thank you.
