Default BOOKS! Let's start a reading list!

Hi Everyone!

It's a snow day here (Seattle area), and as I procrastinate and don't clean the mountain of hair and skin care products from under my sink, I was thinking I might just curl up with a great book instead! And then, I thought it would be GREAT to start a reading list here of our favourites, related to our LOW CARB journeys!

So, if you please, write the TITLE, AUTHOR, and a brief description of what it's about/why you loved it...

1. Grain Brain, by Dr. David Perlmutter.

I love this book! It explained very clearly how things like cholesterol are actually good; how one glass of wine can be beneficial, but more can be damaging; and most interestingly of all, how the dawn of agriculture and processed sugar consumption dramatically changed our diet, but that we are still genetically and physiologically identical to our ancestral cousins. It's no big mystery why everyone we know is fat and getting sick, but there is a way to prevent infammation (major culprit in SO MANY diseases) and live a healthy life. *Very nice recipes at the end of the book, too.

Hey there! I'm looking at the same snow as you today. It's not that much snow, but the driveway got icy PDQ--and in Seattle they're all steep aren't they?

I think no low-carb reading list is complete without this seminal and "early" article:

2. What if It's All Been a Big Fat Lie? by Gary Taubes

I'd already started eating a low-carb diet a few years before this article came out and knew the science basics of why it worked. But this article was such a revealing take on not just why it works, but what's so wrong with the low-fat, low-cal, low-protein food pyramid mantra. More than 15 years later, I still share this frequently with LC skeptics--it's a brief, easy read that nearly anyone is willing to tackle (unlike Taube's Good Calories, Bad Calories, which is excellent, but massive).

Here is my newest book that's coming in the mail.

The Iodine Crisis: What You Don't Know About Iodine Can Wreck Your Life
by Lynne Farrow (Author), David Brownstein (Foreword)

"Thanks to environmental pollutants Iodine deficiency has become a worldwide epidemic. Everybody knows pollutants cause cancer. What they don't know is that these pollutants cause a deficiency that can make us sick, fat and stupid. Iodized salt--supposedly a solution to iodine deficiency-- is actually a nutritional scam which provides a false sense of security. The Iodine Crisis explains how we became so deficient, then shows the time-tested solution to reversing many conditions. Lynne Farrow reveals how she and thousands of other patient-activists changed their lives by researching and using iodine. Frequently Asked Questions cover everything you need to know about iodine. The proof of iodine's benefit is demonstrated by the dramatic case studies shared in this book."

"About the Author
Lynne Farrow is a whistle blower. She is also a journalist, researcher, former college professor and speaker. Her own experience with breast cancer led to the discovery that someone had stolen a medicine with proven benefits reaching back 15,000 years. A medicine that not only helped her, but has helped millions. She currently serves as the Director of Breast Cancer Choices, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to the scrutinizing the evidence for breast cancer procedures and treatments. Lynne is the editor of IodineResearch.com, where she has compiled materials for both beginning and advanced iodine investigators. Visit Lynne's website at LynneFarrow.net "
