Default what helps minimize hot flashes?

I was so happy to finally skip a tom, and what replaces it but hot flashes!

Their not super bad but I have a lot of them daily and I think it maybe why I wake up 100x a night. Cold, hot, cold, hot all night long.

Has anyone found the cure or help this?

Yep, I've really been bothered by them for the past few months- sleeping terribly. So, I started taking black cohosh and St John's Wort a couple of weeks ago, and my hot flashes and night sweats have pretty much disappeared and I'm sleeping much better. I take them after dinner, probably about 2-3 hours before bedtime. I bought ones that only need to be taken once a day because I'm notoriously bad about remembering pills. Good luck!

I feel for ya - it can be really bad.

I was sleeping with ice packs. Actually it was more like I was awake all night with ice packs. I got some relief with progesterone cream but then they came back. My compounding pharmacy recommended Estrovera by Metagenics. It's a rhubarb extract. It works for me. It took about two months. I rarely have a flash now and if I do it's really mild. I'm not awakened at night with them. You can find it on-line or maybe a compounding pharmacy or chiropractor near you carries it. It's not cheap - about thirty bucks a month.

Some of the herbs for menopause can make a person sun sensitive and I can't take them. I'm glad they work for Kvcooks. Aside from the herbs mentioned there is also ashwagandha, red clover, sage. Time for google.

Good luck - let me know if you find anything that helps.

Here, women drink soy milk and it seems to help, although there's lots of stuff out there about the dangers of genetically modified soy products. I don't think they're modified here? Anyway, just throwing that out there. Hope you get some relief soon.

Mine pretty much stopped after I started supplementing Vit. E. That's what my mother swore by.

Not sure if this applies to your situation or not, but ....

Alcohol can make hot flashes much worse, even just a glass of wine with dinner. Now, cutting out alcohol might not be a total cure, but can certainly help, especially the night sweats. This in turn allows for better quality sleep. Better sleep = less stressed feeling during the day. Stress is also a major trigger for hot flashes.

Hope you're feeling better soon

Thanks so much for the recommendations ladies. I will have to experiement and see what works for me.

Doreen its interesting that you mentioned triggers. I usually don't have alcohol but I have noticed that piping hot food seems to trigger flashes and they happen much more often and are more severe when I'm running around at work, or the heater is blowing on me.

I've only had night sweats one time but it was really odd that I seemed to be sweating in places I don't have sweat glands.

I love a good hot flash on a cold night!!! Seriously tho, I tend to sit them out. Some nights they wake me up and I have to stand by an open window - I could get arrested if anyone looked up. During the day when they happen I just fan myself. Interestingly just before one comes on I get a terrible thirst. I dont know if thats normal??!!

Jo xxx

Here's an interesting article about what causes them.

The day after I wrote this I was exhausted, the combination of a sleep disorder, working the night shift and then a blowout hot flash that kept me up all night were more than I could take. The funny thing is that my job has banned peeing, saying we're all in the bathroom too much, so I was afraid to even have a coffee before work. I woke up my roommate crying while getting ready for work and was on my last nerve.

I kept popping vitamin E and snacking on sunflower seeds. I noticed that the hot flashes stop for about 5 hours after I take an E. Hopefully as I build up they will go away enough to get some sleep. Right at 5 hours I start having massive hot flashes as if I'm saving up! I noticed I seem to be concentrating better too.

I've been using progesterone for 3 years and this helped for somethings but have the hot flashes in spite of it.

I'll give the E a week and if it doesn't work enough I'll add in some of the other things mentioned.

ojoj too funny! I know just how you feel I keep a small fan pointed at my bed all night so when I wake up throwing off the covers the fan hits me.

Your company banned peeing? Isn't that against the law?

I hope you get some relief.
