I have a nice new avatar. I have no problem loading them directly from my computer. But I can't seem to find out how to get them here from photobucket, Which is where I had them stored...
Does anyone know what one I use: direct link, html, img or email&IM.

I use IMG. It works for avatars, as well as when you want to insert pics into your posts.

You need to copy the direct link option (the one in the middle). Then, on the Edit Avatar page of your User control panel, in the Custom Avatar section .. remove the http://www. bit from the box where it says "Enter Avatar URL:", then paste the direct link from photobucket.

Be sure that "Use Custom Avatar" is selected, then hit Save Changes at the bottom. This will save the picture here in our database as part of your profile.

Hi Doreen, that is exactly what I've been doing. the one I've been trying to post now says it is NOT a valid gif file.
The one I'm posting is a .gif picture. are there different ones?
even the one I had uploaded from my own computer won't post for me when I try to bring it from photobucket.. maybe I have something there set wrong.

Hmmmm ... I notice the direct link for my own photobucket account starts with i17.photobucket.com, whereas the linked img's are s17.photobucket.com. Is your album set to be private? .. mine is, which may be why the url's are different, and possibly why it won't upload. That's just a guess though, I'm not 100% sure ....

My other suggestion would be to save the picture to your desktop, then do a straight upload from there

Did you remember to first delete the http://www. from the "Enter Avatar URL:" box, before pasting in the link from photobucket?

Yes, I got the extra http://www deleted.
Hmm my photobucket album is private.. maybe that's what the problem is.

Doreen Ive been a member for over a year now.. and you have never changed yours. You need a new avatar!
Well, I'm sure you can find quite a few on your own, here's just some suggestions

LOL! I used to have my own picture up there; changed it every time I got a new hairdo. Then a couple years ago I put up that wobbly coffee cup and ... well, I like it. It represents how I feel when I log on first thing in the morning, and my *real* cup o' rocket fuel hasn't kicked in yet

now, I can understand that.. i love coffee too.

My Photobucket stuff is private, too, but it hasn't been a problem for me. (I did upload my current avatar directly from my computer, though.)
