Default "Do not use for weight reduction"? Why the heck not?

I bought a bottle of Twinlab "Amino Fuel 2000" and noticed that this, and other amino supplements, carried the above warning. Why would they want/need to use such a disclaimer?

It sounds more like something you'd use for muscle gain, rather than fat loss. So they just want to be sure users aren't expecting weight loss.

Hm. Do you think that means it'll interfere with fat loss?

I notice this is also on packets of myoplex (shakes). My guess as far as the myoplex goes is that you aren't supposed to use it as you would, say, Optifast - drinking nothing but the shakes for weight loss. It even says it on the Myoplex lite, which at 190kcal isn't enough to make most people gain weight.

On a supplement, I have no ideas at the moment.

Maybe it's because each one of those frickin' horse pills is the size of a fist and probably weighs a pound...

I tried to crush one with a pill crusher, but the poor crusher didn't stand a chance. I couldn't even start the threading with that giant pill in there. I ended up just chewing the darn thing! Fortunately, it didn't taste too bad, kind of like a dog biscuit if you've ever tried one of those...but I digress...

Default Because their lawyers told them to put it on there, is why

Might not be any reason at all. Might be a carry-over from ephedra days. Who knows? Not familiar with this product or how it works. But now, if you take it for weight loss and a) don't lose or b) keel over because your other nuitrition was adequate, or c) something else altogether, well, they told you not to do it.

Here's a thread from Google which may shed some light:

As long as it's just CYA I feel much better about ignoring it!

I have seen something similar before. This means don't use as meal replacement. Use as a supplement. I think they do this for legal reasons.

yeah, most of you guys are correct... they do this not only as a disclaimer but there really are people out there who will take a supplement solely relying on it to help them lose weight... like with meal replacement shakes, it will say that because some people think it's the shakes that help them lose weight... which is only really half true... theres a lot more to weight loss than taking a supplement

I believe they usually write this becuase they expect you to be working out and building muscle which as we all know muscle ways more than fat(atleast i hope we do)and i am taking this along with protein packets and have went from 135 to 165 but the thing is i am not gaining fat just muscle and my fat is slowly going away and i do mean slowly but it is still going away and that is the important thing. You just have to train hard.
