Unfortunate end for me on this one - I had a shot at hitting the goal this month. I lost 3.5 days of work which would have had me at minimum 9000 steps per day. Oh well, can't do anything about it - onto December.

I have been having hip/joint issues with walking. A PT suggested I mix in elliptical work to ease the pain. The elliptical reports 1 “step equivalent” for each full rotation (2 “steps”). My last 2 days this month include many hours of slow-paced elliptical work. Not sure that is “kosher” for this challenge!

I sympathise with the hip/joint issues. I know how painful that can be, having had to undergo a hip replacement a couple of years ago.

As for the elliptical work, I feel as long as you're moving and recording 'steps', why wouldn't it be kosher! I count every step I take, even it's not necessarily from walking.

Thank you for the encouraging comment Demi! I was feeling sheepish about joining the December challenge because these “step equivalents” don’t really feel equivalent!

Still having issues with plantar skin inflammation which makes long, uninterrupted walks/hikes out of the question. Sometimes even wearing shoes is out of the question. My palms are also affected. I do what I can to stay mobile, including shorter low-impact videos and even some chair aerobics. I've gone full paleo with diet and thinking I might also need to go off eggs, at least temporarily. Currently re-reading Dr Terry Wahls' revised/updated edition of her Wahls Protocol and feeling hopeful. Prescription meds keep the inflammation from getting worse but it's not getting *better* ... and meds also make weight loss near impossible. Right now, I'm happy just NOT gaining!

Anyway ... on to December!!
