Question Blood Sugar Readings

Hi All,

I've been low carbing following Atkins since 7/21/02. My Fitday stats show net carbs at an average of 21 per day and calories at 2000 average. I currently weigh 224 pounds.

Because both of my parents and one brother are type 2 diabetics I decided to monitor my blood sugars. Pre Atkins bloodwork showed a fasting BG of 95. Since I started monitoring (about 2 weeks into Atkins) my BGs have usually run in the low to mid 60's, occasionally rising into the low 70's. I've monitored in the morning before breakfast, after meals and at all other times of the day. The meter calibration checks OK.

Have any other non diabetics on this board monitored BGs? Are these readings what you would expect? Should I change caloric or carb intake?

Thanks,
Larry

I checked my blood sugar today after eating lunch and it was 80. I had gone for a short walk prior to testing. I have not tested my BS before and can't do it on a regular basis (no glucometer). I am interested in if this is normal or if I should eat more or differently.
Is this helping me lose or slowing me down to have a low BS?

Well I am diabetic and my doc says a non-diabetic's blood sugars are about 80 - 120. If I continually received numbers in the 60's, I'd let my doc know. That happened the first time I did LC. Mine dropped to 56 and I had to eat a little fruit to get it back up because I was getting very sick. But doc took off one of my meds and that did the trick for me. But since you aren't taking any, I wouldn't know what to tell you to do other than eat a little bit of a healthy carb. But your doc may think it's not a problem.
