Default Burrito mix?

I LOVE burritos, but don't know if I can use the burrito mix. I'd get some low carb tortillas, and go without the re-fried beans, but just beef with no mix would be pretty "blah".
Here's the ingredients:
Maltodextrine, modified corn starch, salt, pinto bean powder, chili powder, oniion and garlic powder, cumin, hydrogenated vegetable oil (I know, that's a big bad no-no) modified tapioca starch, ceyenne pepper, silicon dioxide.
Per serving size 2 teaspoons (5.5 g dry mix...A whole package is 45 g):
17 cal
Protein 0.3 g
Fat 0.1 g
Carbo 3.8 g

Should I just spice up the beef with my own spices or can I use the mix sparingly?

yeah watch out for the hydrogenated oil as it is a carcinogen..

its funny i was just at the market today trying to figure out how i could make taco meat and looking at the seasonings, i noticed that the taco bell brand mix says "soybean oil" instead of hydrogenated oil, so maybe thats a better bet.. if you like taco bell meat already that is..

i also saw a mcormick ranch "mexican seasoning mix" that was just seasoning, no sugar, no oil, just all the cayenne and everything else, so maybe try that?

i ended up buying the taco bell brand one (it was cheaper) although it had a very minute amount of sugar, it still only had like 3 carbs per serving..

Thumbs up Do-it-yerself

I bet you can come up with a reasonable facimile using some garlic powder, chili powder, Splenda, paprica, cumin and so forth. Good luck!

Thanks! I was thinking of doing my own, just kind of using everything in the mix, except the unacceptable ingredients. Or looking for a mix with better things in it.

and thought this might come in handy for you:

Quote:
Homemade Taco Seasoning (tastes a lot like Lawry's- uses same ingredients)

4 1/2 t. paprika (3.15 ECC)
1 t. cumin (.7 ECC)
1/2 t. oregano (.15 ECC)
1 t. chili powder (.5 ECC)
1 t. onion powder (1.6 ECC)
1 t. salt
1 t. Splenda (.5 ECC)
1/2 t. garlic powder (.9 ECC)
1 t. Atkins Bake Mix (.25 ECC)
1/2 t. cocoa powder- baking type (.33 ECC)
Total Recipe:8.08 ECC

I'm certain you can omit the Atkins Bake Mix if you don't have any.

I've also read that most soybean oils have been partially hydrogenated at some point in their shelf life.

If you can make your own seasoning, go for it.
