Default Low Carb and Vegetarian?

Hello Everybody!

My wife is so impressed by my progress on Atkins (8 lbs off in six days) that she wants to have a go!

Just one problem ---- she's a veggie!

Does anyone have any experience of trying this - I guess it's cheese, cheese and more cheese!

Thank you all!

Johnny

It's not totally impossible to do this diet while being a veggie, however her food choices are going to be very limited and probably quite boring.

She is allowed any and all low carb veggies, cauliflower, spinach, brocolli etc, tofu is good as well. Does she eat eggs, fish and shell fish? Or is she a true vegan? If a true vegan she may get fed up with the menu after about 3 weeks.

I wonder what benefits your wife's getting from her veggie lifestyle if she needs to shed some pounds. Unless she doesn't eat meat because she an animal activist, I really don't know what to suggest. Fish maybe?

P.S. I don't mean to sound condescending.

Vegetarians supplement their diet with rice, corn, beans, pasta, breads and other assorted high carbohydrate ladened foods. Most veggies will eat some animal products such as dairy products and eggs, the true vegans will not eat anything coming from animal period (some won't even wear animal by products such as leather). Doesn't matter if it harms the animal or not, they flat stay away from any animal product.

It's not so much the animal activist, but they have other reasons as well. For some it is simply religious beliefs.

Default CAD?

Vegetarians may find it easier to do the Carbohydrate Addicts Diet, which is basically two very low carb meals a day, plus a "Reward Meal" at which carbs may be eaten, within certain limits; for example, all food must be eaten within one hour to keep insulin levels down (that's the theory, anyway). I have a vegetarian friend who's on CAD, and she has lost some weight on it. She does eat eggs and dairy, which I assume give her low-carb meals some variety.
