Default Tate and Lyle Liquid Splenda Sample

OK - I'm going nuts - I saw a post here, somewhere that had a link to a free sample of the liquid splenda for bakers. I submitted it, not really expecting to get anything. Well, it arrived today! (of course, 2 days after I spent $18 for sweetzfree - anyone want my sweetzfree - once I get it anyway? I'll sell it for the even $18 I paid...)

The bottle says:
Sucralose Liquid Concentrate
(25% sucralose by weight)

BUT they didn't include any dillution instructions with it! Does anyone know what the correct dillution is?

I put a drop the size of a head on a pin on a spoon (used a toothpick) and dipped my finger in it (left some behind) - OMG it was so sweet I thought I'd pass out! LOL Even after washing my hands WITH SOAP I can still taste it if I put my finger to my tongue!

Thanks,
Robin

You don't want to dilute it. It's the exact same strength as sweetzfree. Sweetzfree buys the liquid concentrate in bulk and re-bottles it. It's the same stuff.

Get yourself a couple of small brown glass eyedropper bottles for dispensing it. Most health food stores carry them. Drops are the only consistent way of measuring liquid splenda. If you try to use small measuring spoons, the surface tension of the liquid causes it to stick to the implement and measuring it inconsistent. A drop will always be the same amount.

Since you'll probably have the bottle for at least a year, it's a good idea not to introduce any contaminants. Don't touch the rim with your fingers. If you get some of the liquid on the outside rim, wipe it with a paper towel, not a sponge. If you get crystals on the outside rim (and you probably will) don't worry about them.

Make sure you store the bottle upright- if it falls on it's side it will leak.

I've had my sample for almost 3 years and it's still going strong.

Thanks Scott - So, just to clarify - measure it like Sweetzfree?
Quote:
1 drop to equal the sweetness of approximately 1.5 teaspoons of sugar. Or, 1/4 teaspoon to equal the sweetness of 1 cup of sugar.

The link is:

tate and lyle

Under "select a sub area" select Europe (Americas will not bring up any results - I live in CO and I got my request by selecting Europe)
Then "region" Europe-EU - "Select an Ingredient or Service Category" Splenda Sucralose
Then request a sample of Liquid Sucralose (type in the "message/request" box)

Wow... 25% sucralose would be 600/4 times sweeter than sugar by weight, I think.

Here's what it says on their website... (so, I'd say you're right! )

Quote:
SPLENDAŽ Sucralose is a no-calorie sweetener that is made from sugar, so it tastes like sugar and is approximately 600 times sweeter than sugar. In addition to its great sugar-like taste, SPLENDAŽ Sucralose retains its sweetness through all commonly used food and beverage manufacturing processes and also throughout the shelf life of finished products. The versatility of SPLENDAŽ Sucralose is enabling food and beverage manufacturers to offer consumers a far greater range of great tasting, reduced calorie products than ever before. It's the ideal no-calorie sweetener for full or partial replacement of nutritive sweeteners in almost any product application. Sucralose Liquid Concentrate is available as a 25% w/w solution buffered to pH4.4. SPLENDAŽ is a trademark of McNeil Nutritionals, LLC. This product has a key role in Tate & Lyle Solutions. To find out more visit the Solutions' area of this website.

I guess that isn't much help. You'd have to figure out how much a drop weighs.

Well wait... lets say you got an ounce of the stuff. So multiply that weight by 150 (600/4) and that's how much sweetener you have total. So... 150 oz or almost 19 cups of sugar.

But then you've got to go from oz to spoons or drops.

My brain is melting... can you call them?

Do you need to put USA in your address? Thanks for the link. I'm getting low on Sweetzfree so I'm going to give it a try.

Nancy,
If it's the same strength as Sweetzfree, then 1 cup sugar equiv is 24 drops.

I don't remember if I specifically put USA - if it asks for country then yes. Otherwise don't worry about it.

I put in my request, we'll see what happens. I doubt they will believe I am commercial, but it's always worth a try *grins*

OK, I guess I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, because I'll be darned if I can figure out how to get the sample you've been talking about. I followed the link but then didn't see anything that mentioned a sample at all.

You have to use internet explorer for one I found. Then you had to look hard for a small menu option that stated "get a free sample" or something like that. took me forever.

I couldn't figue it out, either, but then I have enough Sweetzfree to last me for another five years, so it doesn't really matter.

Thanks LadyBelle! I was using Firefox. When I switched to IE I saw what I was looking for. Still kind of an odd process, but if I can get a sample it will be well worth the hunting around.
