Hi luckyangel,
Best of luck from a Dub who went north (Donegal) a long time ago! Best of luck on LC - where you are it should be a wee bit easier to find things in the shops.

Thumbs up Hi, Grennmhar

Hows it going? good I hope. Hows Donegal? What a beautiful place.
How do you like it. Eventually there will be more L carb products.I think
its really going to catch on. Keep up the good work. Surely Dublin has a lot of
products. Take care

Donegal is great! Wouldn't go back to the city now for a pension. I get busy in the kitchen and don't really mind not having a lot of LC products - at least my 'goodies' don't vanish when LC goes temporarily out of favour.
And no, Dublin hasn't much that I can find - I have to buy my ingredients online, some even from US, like Stevia. All the while hoping the customs don't seize it ......

Hi luckyangel..

congrats on the weight loss... i'm trying to start induction myself but can't get over the carb addiction yet...
If you don't mind, could you give us an example of what you're usual daily diet would be?
I'm just looking for ideas for induction - I can't handle eating meat all day long!!

cheers..

Depends on what you want.

McDonalds is suprisingly handy. You can have an egg and sausaage muffin at breakfast time, dump the bun. Or have a regular burger or cheese burger, again dump the bun. Or the side salad or the grilled chicken salad is fine. If you are in Grafton Street in Dublin, then the Vienna Coffee in the McCafe is wonderful, and made with proper cream, not sugary junk.

Avoca food hall, and Fallon & Byrne as well as a few other places, do Lindt 99% chocolate. This is great stuff, very low carb, amazing chocolate taste, but so strong you are happy to eat one or two squares and stop. It's also a great ingredient in things like low carb chocolate moouse. JC in Swords have it too.

Holland & Barrett have some useful stuff. GG crispbreads are very high fibre, so they fit well on a low carb diet. Flaxseeds are a great ingredient for making your own low carb bread and cakes. Whey protein powder is a useful ingredient in things like low carb icecream.

I do a lot of my shopping at the farmer's market in Temple Bar on Saturdays, lots of interesting vegetables and organic eggs and cheese there. Tesco is good for cheap nuts.

Things like John West Tuna with a Twist or a stick of pepperami are good to carry with you.

I forgot one of the most obvious, cheese strings. Very handy to carry, as long as you remember to take any leftovers out and put them in the fridge when you get home.

Most sandwich/bagel places will do a "chicken salad sandwich, hold the bread" and give you a small chicken salad on a plate.

Down to Earth in South Great Georges Street do Go Lower bars. They are low carb nut and seed bars and don't contain sugar alcohols. Mind you, at E2.05 for a small bar, I'd keep them as an occasional treat.

The Asian Market in Drury Street has jars of coconut oil for E1.65, which can be used to make all sorts of low carb goodies.

Default Pork Rinds in Dublin!!!

I've just found some pork rinds in Dublin that are actually nice.

There is a red and white shop with a name like Pino Sari in Abbey Street, just opposite Independence House, and they have big bags of pork rinds for 3.50. They are light and crispy and slightly salty, ideal as a treat snack. And no carbs!

I'm really glad this thread is here, it would have really annoyed me finding them, and not being able to tell anyone who would be interested.

There's a long thread about coocnut oil on the Atkins forum. One thing I do is melt a square of Lindt 85% or 99% chocolate with a couple of tablespoons of coconut oil, divide between six or eight cake cups and freeze. Excellent high fat, low cal snack.

CO is supposed to have all sorts of health benefits.
