Ok - so I may have some 'sludge' to look forward to...

You're right about the quantity thing - I just went and looked at the bottle of Carlson's liquid vs. the Carlson's capsules. Two softgels give you 750mg DHA/EPA essential fatty acids, whereas 1 teaspoon of the lemon flavoured liquid gives you 1600mg.

I was previously taking 1-3 softgels, and only when I remembered.

So the liquid probably really is better. There's no way I'd want to take 10 softgels either, so the liquid provides way more DHA/EPA in a simple teaspoon measure. Thanks for pointing this out Elle.

And yeah, I think I heard that too about the rancidity thing as well...that we can't always tell with the capsules.

I think the chewing them deal came about as a way of testing their freshness; if you bit into one and it was rancid, then toss the bottle, rather than take any more.

I asked Dr Eades about his taking both fish oil and krill, this is his response:

Hi Dr. Mike,

Can you talk about why it’s beneficial to use both the fish oil and krill? I currently take about 1,000 mg of fish oil daily, but am considering switching to krill; one major difference it seems is the krill has quite a bit less of the EPA and DHA in it. But, one would gain the more effective antioxidants using krill, I think? Oy…… makes my head hurt trying to figure some of these things out

I appreciate your thoughts and time, as always!

Hey Daryl–

I use both because I figured out that that worked the best for me to prevent my aches and pains from all the golf I play. Krill oil has less EPA and DHA, but what it has of those fats comes in a phospholipid form that is much more absorbable so the smaller amount actually has a greater effect. Plus krill oil does have a load of antioxidants that plain fish oil doesn’t have.

Cheers–

MRE

that is funny, b/c I have a brand new bottle, waiting to open after this one, and it has a little sludge in the bottom.
