Default Ladies, has anyone tried evening primrose oil?

Because my daily life is one continual hot flash at this point, and the person at Whole Foods said it would help.

Has anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks!

Haven't used it - I'm waaayyyyy past hot flashes but my supplement book by Dr. Eades says its good. It would be worth a try. It's main ingredient is GLA (Gamma-linoleic acid). It stimulates estrogen production.

Thanks for the reply, SDgrandma. The very last thing I want at this moment is something that stimulates estrogen! Back to Whole Foods with the primrose oil.

The way you shied away from evening primrose, are you estrogen dominant? A book to read, What your doctor may NOT tell you about menopause: the breakthrough book of natural progesterone, by John R Lee, MD.

A real eye-opener. Available at amazon.com, etc.

I started taking Evening Primrose Oil in my 30s for cramps and have taken 500 mg. a day ever since (I'm now 55). It helped for the cramps and when I went through menopause, I had no hot flashes or other symptoms. I don't know if it's due to the Evening Primrose but I'm still taking it.

Also good for flashes:
Lecithin (before meals)
Vitamin C up to 3000 mg daily (in divided doses)
Vitamin E 400IU (can gradually take larger doses up to 1200IU daily, until flashes disappear)(take E with lecithin)

I recently quit femHRT, and I notice some warm flashes. Which I occasionally had even with HRT. Since I take all of the above, in the smaller doses, and even. prim. oil and flaxseed oil, maybe that's why they never get to be HOT flashes.

Thank you all for your responses. It got so bad, and I was suffering additionally from depression, so my doctor put me on an antidepressant. It is working, thank the Lord, and it is also helping with the hot flashes.
