Default Glutamine

Sorry for all the questions right now. I just read the book this week and want to try to start or get a soft start on Monday. (Since I am cheating like a big dog right now.)

What is Glutamine? Is it a powder that I can add to a protein shake or is it a liquid? Is it expensive?

I currently use and love Designer Protein's Vanilla Praline protein powder. I think it has some glutamine but how much should it have to be effective and when should I take it? how many carbs should a protein shake have? I would probably drink a protein shake in the morning after a workout and in the evening for a snack, if that makes any difference.

Hey Reneny, you're just full of questions today

Glutamine is perhaps the only supplement that is worth its weight in gold. Yes, it can be expensive - depending on the quality of the product. However, it lasts quite a while and it does quite a bit.

Here's a discussion on Glutamine from the General exercise forum that explains everything you need to know.

Most shakes do have some (between 2 - 4g per serving) but when doing such intense exercise it is best to supplement with more. Guidelines are .3g per KG of LBM. It is best to divide the dose up into 2 or 3 servings and have them throughout the day.

You will notice a dramatic improvement in how sore you feel (or rather, do NOT feel) with this supplement. It will also help with sugar cravings and it will boost your immune system.

Default glutamine requirements?

So if you have a LBM of say 100 you would require 30 gms of glutamine a day?

Is this correct?

thanks

100 what?

If you had an LBM of 100 kg you would need 30g.

If you had an LBM of 100 lb you would only just under 14g.

Units count!
