Default Diabetics - how do you test?

I have always been told to test 2 hours from the first bite of food - so, if I started my meal at 7pm I would then test at 9pm. Now I'm reading/hearing that people are testing 2 hours AFTER their meal - so if they are done with their meal at 7:30 they would test at 9:30.

I'm just wondering what other diabetics are doing, or what they were told. Thanks!!

Jenny Ruhl suggests 60-90 minutes after the start of the meal.

I like a one-hour test if I'm looking for maximum spike. That can be approximate. I use this test to see what foods I can handle best and what foods I have a problem with.

The two hour test is good to test recovery, exact timing is not that important to me, that is, it can be a few minutes late. The idea as far as I'm concerned is that I should be back to approximately pre-meal number at that time.
